Baking chocolate?!

Question: I would like to make a recipe for brownies that my mother gave me a long time ago.

The recipe calls for 4 square of baking chocolate.....but I am unsure of the size of the squares. The baking chocolate bar I have has 8 (1/2 ounce) pieces (they seem small)....How much baking chocolate should I use when the recipe contains 2 cups of sugar and will be baked in a 9x13 pan?

If the recipe calls for 4 squares of chocolate, that is equal to 4 oz. of chocolate. Check the size of the bar on the label; it's probably an 8 oz. bar, so you want to use half of that.

Usually, 1 oz. squares are scored to break in half again, to facilitate melting. So don't let that confuse you. :-)

use the 4 little squares of the eight you have,,,it melts and will fill in your recipe nicely

A square of chocolate is 1 ounce.
