Cabbage Recipes?!
What are some things with cabbage in them that don't taste completely gross?
I LOVE spring rolls with cabbage in them.
Answers: I have a problem with cabbage because my mom LOVES it and boils it all the time. I think it reeks and that alone is the reason I don't eat it.

Oh gawsh, BOILING cabbage is the worst! ANd yes, it does stink! Cabbage only requires a brief cooking time, not hours of boiling. Blech! Talk her into making some of these recipes (or you make them!) and you'll both like cabbage!

Mock Bok Choy Cabbage Salad
3 oz ramen noodle soup mix - Oriental flavor
2 tbsp. sunflower seeds
1/4 cup cider vinegar
1/3 cup vegetable or canola oil
2 1/2 tbsp. sugar (splenda is ok)
1 bag coleslaw mix (with carrots)
1/4 cup sliced almonds
5-6 green onions, sliced (green and white separated)
Remove flavor pack from soup, set aside. Break ramen noodles into pieces and place on lightly greased baking pan. Add sunflower seeds, bake at 350oF for 5-8 min or until toasted, stirring occasionally.
Whisk flavor pack, oil, vinegar and sugar in a jar until blended. Chill at least one hour.
Place coleslaw mix in a large bowl, add sliced onion bulbs (white part).
About 1 hour before serving, mix dressing into coleslaw mix. Place noodles around the outside edge of cabbage, top center with almonds and onion greens. (Makes a nice presentation, but for our family I just sprinkle all of the above on top).
(If you need a large quantity, use the big bag of coleslaw mix from Sams and doubled the other ingredients .)
Combine and chill before serving.

Also, fry 3-4 slices of bacon in a big skillet. WHen alsmost done, add an onion, hlaved then sliced. When bacon is done, add a half a head of cabbage, cut into thin strips (core cut out). Add salt and pepper, stirring well to coat w/ bacon and onions. top w/ a lid, and set timer for 5 min. After 5 min, stir well again. Set timer for 5 min again. When timer goes off, cabbage is done! (notice: you dont' add water to this recipe... you are using the water in the cabbage to gently steam itself)

Use a lid so the cabbage will call well. Once the water has cooked out add another 1 cup to make sure the cabbage wit very soft. Make sure the water is all cooked out before you eat it. I add alot of black pepper and salt to mine.

I make cabbage and noodles. I use the shredded cabbage in a bag that you can buy to make cole slaw. Heat 2 T. olive oil and 2 T. butter in a pan and add your cabbage. Cook it, covered until it's soft. Cook some klusky noodles in salted water and add to the cabbage. Season with salt and pepper, and maybe a little garlic. Your cabbage will cook down, so make sure you don't make more noodles than cabbage.

My mom has a delicious Scalloped Cabbage recipe! It's my husband's and my absolutely favorite way to eat cabbage!
Scalloped Cabbage
5 cups cooked cabbed, well drained (don't overcook)--I put it in a pot with about 1/3 cup boiling water to steam.
3 Tbsp. butter
2 Tbsp. flour
1/8 tsp black pepper
1/4 tsp. salt
1 cup milk
1/2 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese
1/2 cup buttered crumbs
Spread cabbage in buttered 2 qt. casserole.
Make white sauce with butter, flour, seasonings, and milk.
Add cheese after prior ingredients have been heated and blended well.
Then Stir until creamy.
Pour over cabbage and cover with crumbs
Bake in a 325 degree oven for 30 minutes (longer if you want a slightly browned top).
For plain cooked cabbage I adapted Paula Deen's easy corned beef and cabbage recipe for just cabbage. Cook 4 slices of bacon in a pot until almost crisp. Remove and add some butter and let it melt. Put in a head of coarsely chopped cabbage and stir to coat. Add about 1/3 cup of water and salt and pepper to taste. Cover and cook over medium heat about 10-15 minutes or until desired doneness.
