Sometimes my late night snack is peanut butter, but is it supposed to make you tired or awake?!

Question: Peanuts are largely a protein source. Protein isn't converted to energy in your body like carbohydrates would be, so they have little affect on how awake you will be. If you are looking for something to keep you awake, complex (not simplex) carbohydrates are a better idea, like fresh fruit and whole grains. They are converted to sugar/energy when you digest them and best of all they mix well with peanut butter too!

I've never heard anything about peanut butter making you tired or awake, but dont eat too much of it- when I was pregnant with my youngest son I ended up with kidney stones which my doc said was due to eating alot of peanut butter, next to childbirth is the most excruciating pain I have ever experienced- it was so painful that I ended up in the hospital on a morphine drip!

Any food eaten late at night is going to keep you up for a little while longer. The fact that you are snacking that late is already proof that your body is tired, sort of like how when you get thirsty, it's a sign that your body is already starting to get dehydrated.

i dont think that peanut butter would make you tired, it is packed with protein
