Try Sweet Lady Jane desserts. They're located on Melrose and they have some really GOOD cakes. I've tried their famous triple berry shortcake, Seven Layer Chocolate cake, and a chocoate-strawberry cake...all are excellent! If you're not sure what kind of cake you want, you can always go in and just buy a piece to try it out first. Also, all their cakes looks very nice, too.

Another place that has great cakes, but is not as expensive is Porto's Bakery. Their Parisian chocolate cake looks super chocolatey, but taste-wise it's the perfect balance of chocolate cake and creme and it's very moist. They're located in Glendale & Burbank.

they have this place in baltimore...

Make him one. Even from a mix, it will be better than store-bought. Their icing is usually awful - just sweet & tasteless, often made with lard.

make him 1 if it comes from the heat from ur hands he will apreshate you more and expect lots of hugs :)

Yes- figure out which cake your bf likes the most. Go to a bakery and ask for a taste of that cake- or buy a slice. That's the best way to go. I've found that all bakeries are good- they have to be to stay in business- but each bakery has one or two particular items that are stellar.

Do you have a Sam's Club where you live? Or even a Costco? I personally think they're birthday cakes are good. Also, you can ask for whipped icing instead of buttercream if it's too sweet for your tastebuds.
