Substituting Condensed Soup for Soup Mix packet?!
Answers: My recipe for Salsbury Steak calls for 1 can of condensed french onion soup. All are have are packets of french onion soup mix. How do i substitute it properly??????
Make the soup mix but add a little less liquid (whatever it is...water, milk, etc.) You want the soup to be thicker since soup mixes usually turn out to be more watery than canned soups.
Make the soup and then measure out the amount you need and add it to your steak recipe.
Mix the packets with 2/3 cup water or any stock you have on hand. Let the dry mix "steep" for a few miutes and add to your recipe as usual. If your recipe is a little thick, add a little more liquid. Good luck!
If you have packets of dry soup mix, just use half packet and half the liquid required or 1/4 packet and 1/4 liquid. re-close packet for next time use.
