I am Polish, and I know that pierogi are a favorite dish for all Polish people. I eat pierogi very often, so here are some ways you can eat them:
1. Pierogies with potato and cheese:
boil pierogi for about 10 min than in a skillet melt butter and place chopped onions. After you onion will get golden placed cooked pierogi and fry them until they will got gold-brown on both sides. :) YOU WILL LOVE THEM :)
or
you can sever them with soure cream and chopped parsley
2. Pierogi with meat you can serve same as potato one :)
3. Pierogi with fruits server with sour cream + sugar (children love them)
SMACZNEGO!!! (enjoy :) )
Pierogies with Mushroom Sauce
2 packages frozen potato-onion pierogies
4 tablespoons butter
10 ounces button mushrooms, sliced
1 medium onion, chopped
2 tablespoons sour cream
In a large pot, bring enough water to cover the pierogies to a boil. Place pierogies in boiling water and cook through. Remove pierogies from heat and strain. In a medium skillet, heat 2 tablespoons of butter. Add the sliced mushrooms and stir until they are coated with butter. Add the chopped onion to the skillet and saute until the onions are soft and the mushrooms begin to give up their liquid. Remove the skillet from heat and add the sour cream and stir until just combined.
In another skillet, heat the remaining 2 tablespoons of butter. Add the cooked pierogies to the skillet and saute until browned. Transfer the pierogies to a serving platter and spoon the mushroom sauce on top.
I always make this, my family loves it! Enjoy!
What about this recipe, hope this helps.
Pierogies and Cabbage
INGREDIENTS
1/4 pound bacon, diced
1/2 small head cabbage, chopped
1 large onion, thinly sliced
2 tomatoes, chopped
1 tablespoon vegetable oil
2 teaspoons white wine vinegar
1/2 teaspoon white sugar
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 (16 ounce) package frozen potato and cheese filled pierogies, thawed
DIRECTIONS
Place bacon in a large, deep skillet. Cook over medium high heat until evenly brown. Drain, reserving drippings, and set aside.
Heat bacon drippings over medium heat and stir in cabbage and onion; cover and cook for 10 minutes.
Stir in tomatoes, vegetable oil, vinegar, sugar, salt and bacon; cook uncovered for 5 minutes.
Meanwhile, prepare pierogies according to package directions; drain. Combine pierogies with cabbage mixture and serve.
I usually make them the way you do also. And usually have them with sour cream. But I've had them sauerkraut also and they were really good. Try Recipezaar for some ideas. http://www.recipezaar.com/
Depends on what flavor pierogi's they are but you can try different dipping sauces such as sour cream, salsa, marinara or ranch to name a few. Maybe even try deep frying them?! For the sauerkraut filled ones maybe you could try 1000 Island dressing for a kind of Reuben sort of flavor, maybe serve with corned beef.
You can deep fry them, and they taste great!!
