Brown hamburger or ground beef,drain fat, then simmer with 1/4 cup of water and taco seasoning for about 15 min. Put in shells and garnish with whatever you want. My wife likes to use soft shells and then fry them for a minute or so on each side with the meat and some cheese already in the shell. She pins it closed with a toothpick.

the seasoning packets are loaded with msg ...this is a great alternative....
2 pounds of ground beef(drained well)
1 teaspoon of salt
2 tablespoons of chili power
2 tablespoons of paprika
1 teaspoon Cumin
1 tsp Garlic powder or 2 cloves

The above recipe will work so no probs. Here is a hint. If you like the crunchy shells but hate the breaking deal. Put the meat mixture in the shell then heat the shell in the oven at 350 for about 3-5 minutes. The store bought pre made shells that is. Then load as desired. Shredded lettuce, shredded cheese I prefer sharp cheddar, topped with maybe guacamole or sour cream. And of course salsa.
