What is shortening?!
Answers: I was looking up recipes for cupcakes and one of their ingredients was shortening. I'd like to know where can i buy this ingredient and is there an alternative if it's not available?

-The term "shortening" can be used more Fat that is used for baking and which is solid at room temperature, such as butter, lard, or margarine.
-Shortening made of, vegetable oil (Crisco very popular) or palm-oil (this less in fat content) .
Where can you buy it???
1. Any stores or grocery shop - baking stuff section
2. Baking stuff store.

Alternative (Substitute)
you can substitute the vegetable shortening in the baking with unsalted butter, margarine, or a combination of butter and lard, or even vegetable suet.
Shortening is a solid vegetable oil. Crisco is probably the most famous brand in the USA. An alternative would be to use butter.
Shortening is "lard"....that's all. Just ask a grocery clerk where you can find it and he (she) will show you!!

For cupcakes you can probably get away with using butter or margarine. But for pastries and pie crust you can only substitute lard.
