Caramel Popcorn Question!!!!!!!!!!???????...!

Question: So I want to make caramel popcorn for my friends tonight and i have the recipe and I know it works.... but i dont have butter. Can I replace butter/margarine with oil instead?

The recipe I have calls for:
1 c. brown sugar
1 STICK OF BUTTER/MARGARINE
1/4 c. corn syrup
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 tsp baking soda
and vanilla extract

would replacing oil for butter ruin the recipe??? and would it drastically taste different????????????

Oh yes, I'm sorry, but the oil would dramatically change the flavor...............and your recipe would not be the same at all. Save it for another night because this recipe sounds really delicious and do a simple salt and pepper mix, possibly throw in some chili pepper, paprika or white pepper to give it some heat and love, but the butter is what combines your ingredients above together and gives it that smooth taste that you will not get with oil. Sorry for the bad news. Renee

yes =[

the key to having butter is that when you mix it with the brown sugar, the consistancy creates the thick, caramel. I'm afriad if you use oil, your "caramel" will simply be a runny, brown sugar water...er..oil.

You can cut the whole making the caramel from scratch part and just use some caramel candy cubes in the microwave!

No that would taste terrible..Have someone run out and get butter or margarine....

You can't replace the butter with oil in this recipe. The butter and brown sugar make the carmel and the butter really gives it the great taste.

SORRY! YOU HAVE TO USE BUTTER OR MARGARINE. IT'S WORTH IT IF YOU CAN BORROW SOME BUTTER OR SOMETHING. IF YOU USE OIL.....YOU'LL BE SORRY!
