HavingTeeth pulle, getting detures, need ideas for soft foods to eat during healing period?!

Question: My husband is getting his teeth pulled and having detures put in tomorrow. What foods would be easy to make and soft enough that he could eat until his gums heal up a bit. Something besides eggs, potatoes, and rice,or macaroni and cheese. And just for the record he isn't a big fan of soup either and hates noodles and beans. He's pickier than the cat....lol! I welcome all suggestions.

He isn't going to have as many problems as you think. Remember never use a straw after extractions. Baked potato with ham or roast beef spread. Vienna sausages are easy to eat--and he shouldn't fuss, if he fishes he eats plenty of them--and that gives me an idea, fish are super easy to chew or not chew as it might be. As hard as it might be on you, remember the mouth heals quickly, the dentist will give him some happy pills and by Monday he should be able to handle most foods other than caramel and corn on the cob.

After I had surgery, I ate a lot of ricotta cheese---you can flavor it many different ways. H eneeds to keep his protein up so you may want to buy him a couple of protein shakes ttoo.

applesauce
pudding
ice cream
good luck!!!

Carnation Instant Breakfast shakes (they're good!)

Pudding, Yogurt, Custard

Smoothies made w/ frozen bagged fruit, yogurt or lowfat milk, and ice cubes (these would probably feel good on his gums, too)

Quiche

Canned Fruit (all but pineapple, unless crushed) and Canned Veggies (not corn, but green beans, peas, carrots, beets

Chicken Casseroles w/ Rice (use deli rotisserie chicken; it's tender) **

Oatmeal, Grits, Cream of Wheat, Malt O Meal

Muffins: no nuts or coconut, but make banana or applesauce muffins

--------------------------------------...
**Creamy Chicken & Rice Casserole

2 celery ribs, chopped
1 small onion, chopped
1 Tbsp. butter or margarine
1 cup mayonnaise
1 (10.75 oz) can condensed cream of chicken soup, undiluted
1 cup frozen peas
1 tablespoon lemon juice
1 teaspoon salt
3 cups cubed cooked chicken
2 cups cooked rice
1 cup crushed potato chips or crushed Ritz crackers

In a small skillet, saute celery and onion in butter until crisp-tender. Place in a bowl; add the mayonnaise, soup, peas, lemon juice and salt. Stir in chicken and rice. Transfer to a greased 11-in. x 7-in. x 2-in. baking dish. Sprinkle with potato chips. Bake, uncovered, at 350oF for 25-30 minutes or until heated through.

The first few days, he should drink through a straw.

Carnation's Instant Breakfast with a little ice cream mixed in will be good for him. You could also mash a banana and mix it into the Instant Breakfast. Bananas are so very good for the body.

V-8 Juice and Fusion are both good and healthy. Use a straw.

Lots and lots of water. And a 4 oz to 6 oz glass of apple juice before noon so he will not have trouble with constipation. Or apple sauce.

Later on, mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes, oatmeal, Cream of Wheat, soups, baby foods.

I made this interesting recipe tonight that included cauliflower puree. Sounds strange, but it was pretty tasty! After looking into it a little more I found out that it's an Atkins type substitute for mashed potatoes. Here's the recipe that we used tonight, just make sure that you drain and dry the cauliflower as much as possible:

Cauliflower Puree:
1 head cauliflower (about 2 pounds), cut into florets
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/8 teaspoon ground nutmeg
Pinch cayenne pepper
2 tablespoons butter
2 tablespoons grated Parmesan cheese
2 tablespoons milk
2 tablespoons chopped parsley

1. Cauliflower Puree: Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add cauliflower; cook for 15 minutes or until very tender. Drain, pressing lightly to release liquid.

2. Add cooked cauliflower into the bowl of a food processor and puree. Add salt, nutmeg, cayenne, butter and Parmesan and puree again. Add milk as needed for a creamy texture. Spoon into a bowl; stir in parsley. Keep warm.

EDIT: Come to think of it, you should steam the cauliflower so that it isn't so water-logged. The flavor was there, but the texture was a little watery... this should help!

ground meat sandwiches, jello, pudding, ice cream, oatmeal, or just really chopped up meat with lots of gravy, maybe some softer veggies:green beans, peas, canned fruits. i work in the kitchen at a hospital and we usually give our soft diets stuff like this, the ground meat sandwiches can be pretty good kinda like makin tuna just add in some onion and garlic powder to add flavor

I ate a lot of yogurt and oatmeal
