Can you mix ground turkey with extra lean ground beef to make turkey burgers?!

Question: I've never used ground turkey before, and someone told me to mix it with extra lean ground beef. And also, what spices and seasonings should I use to flavor them?

I often substitute ground turkey for part or all of the ground beef in a recipe. Ground turkey can be a little more bland, so I do add some more spices. This is how I make turkey burgers for my family. You can use all turkey for this or half turkey and half ground beef:

Grilled Turkey Burgers

1 ? pounds ground turkey
? onion, chopped
2 Tablespoons soy sauce
? cup ketchup
1 Tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
? cup seasoned bread crumbs

Mix all ingredients together and divide into 6 equal portions. Shape each portion into a patty and grill until done. These can be prepped a few hours ahead, layered in between wax paper, and refrigerated until needed

Good Luck!

You can just use ground turkey on it's own. It's pretty tasty.

You don't have to mix ground beef in your ground turkey, there's really no need.

You don't have to mix them together. You can make turkey burgers with just the turkey. I make them all the time..They are really good...I just use a little seasoned salt and cook them in a little oil.

I can't think why not, but the turkey should work well just on its own.

You can do that - but then you can't call them turkey burgers anymore. If you want a nice lean red meat free burger than just use the turkey - it has lots of flavor and if you add seasonings, the turkey will really take them on.

I have used a myriad of seasonings before - whatever you feel like eating, try it. Hard to go wrong, unless you add too much or off the wall combos.

I've never tried it before, but I guess you could add beef to the burgers. I don't see why, though. Then they're not turkey burgers anymore!

Try adding fresh thyme, black pepper, garlic, ginger, or even curry powder.

Hope I helped :o)

Yeah, like they said, you can use it alone but it tastes different and the beef would improve the taste. Use garlic and onion powder. Or any of them depending on what you want it to taste like. Or just salt and pepper.

Ummm if you add ground beef (no matter how lean) it's no longer a turkey burger.

I don't like ground turkey burgers---dry and tough. I use ground chuck--about half and half---they're pretty good. Season with garlic, salt, pepper, and a bit of oregano.

Yes you can mix them. However, it wouldn't be called turkey burgers anymore if you mix them with other meat. You may just want to stick with salt, pepper and poultry seasoning. I usually just use salt and pepper if I cook them in a skillet. On a grill, I don't add any seasonings. The reason why is because you'll be adding other ingredients to the burger, like cheese, ketchup, tomatoes, lettuce, etc. There's plenty of flavors from those ingredients.

Yes, you can, and no, you don't have too. I eat ground turkey as a replacement for Beef. What I do is mix my spices...usually St. Louis Style or Chicago style steak seasoning with the thawed meat. Add in bread crumbs and pat out into burgers....then place them on waxed paper back into the fridge or freezer for a little while. Then you can either place them on a George Foreman grill or bake them in the oven. I don't recommend actually charcoal grilling them as they will burn or fall apart easy.

I usually use the 93/7 turkey meaning it is 93% fat free. You will need the bread crumbs to make it stick together and to be able to handle it as it can be very moist and sticky.

I would urge you to try Turkey as a replacement for burger in things like soups, or even hamburger helper....I bet the only difference you notice is the amount of grease you have to drain away.

I also like to mix it with ground pork, or sometimes ground chuck if I make a meatloaf.

Seasoned Turkey Burgers "These burgers are great on the 'que' or indoors. Dress them up as you like, even on a whole wheat bun. Baked garlic home fries go great with it! Serve with the 'works': lettuce, tomato, avocado, sprouts, onion, mayonnaise, mustard, ketchup, etc."

INGREDIENTS
1 1/2 pounds ground turkey breast
1 (1 ounce) package dry onion soup mix
1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
1 1/2 tablespoons soy sauce
1 egg, lightly beaten (optional)
6 hamburger buns, split

DIRECTIONS
In a large bowl, mix the turkey with the onion soup mix, pepper, garlic powder, soy sauce, and egg. Refrigerate the mixture about 10 minutes, then form into 6 patties.
Preheat the grill for medium-high heat.
Lightly oil the grill grate. Place the patties on the grill. Cook for 20 minutes, turning once, or until well done. The inside of the burgers will look whitish in color when cooked through. Serve on buns.

i've been using ground turkey instead of ground beef for almost 20 years and i don't add any other meat when making burgers or anything else i use ground meat in for that matter except every once in a while i might mix ground pork and super super super only 3%fat ground beef for chili. pure turkey burgers are awesome! i change up the seasonings depending on what flavor i'm in the mood for. if you just want a regular burger, use grill seasoning. mexican burger use kosher salt, chili powder, cumin, and mexican oregano. italian burger use kosher salt and italian seasoning. it makes great meatloaf also! i use it in my red sauce for lasagna and pasta dishes also. I make a pretty killer poorman's stroganoff with it also. YUMMY!

Yep, it's good.. We make turkey meatballs to have with Spaghetti. The same spices you use with burgers are fine.. I like Lawry's season salt and some Dale's sauce though when cooking almost anything.
