Can you substitute vegetable oil when baking cupcakes?!

Question: After adding nearly all my ingredients to my cupcakes i realised i had no oil and my step mum told me to put STRAWBERRY YOGURT, i thought she was insane and it was going to reck the cupcakes but to my surprise it turned out fine and it tasted great and i use it all the time now. If you don't want to use strawberry you can use any flavour yogurt.

I use EVOO (extra virgin olive oil) for everything including baking. I can't tell the difference at all. My mother in law does too. We swear by EVOO

Absolutely, you may need to use a little less than the shortening called for, and you may want to add one more egg.
But you will probably get a very nice, moist cupcake with the vegetable oil. I do this all the time.

Yeah, but they won't taste as rich or delicious. Always use olive oil or butter, or applesauce if you're doing a fat-free version.

If you want to cut the fat, you can substitute an equal amount of applesauce.

sure ... Use a teensy bit less oil than you would shortening though (and DON'T use olive oil in baking!!! bleh!)
