Good recipes for a SLOW COOKER please have you got one and what do you cook?!
Answers: A slow cooker cookes on a very LOW heat over many hours and im my opinion cooks much better than an oven because high oven heat can dry out certain foods
BEEF IN BEER;
25g/1oz butter
900g/2lb stewing steak, trimmed and cubed
1 large onion chopped
1 clove garlic crushed
100g/4oz mushrooms sliced
50g/2oz plain flour
300ml/half pint brown ale ( dark beer )
450ml/three quarter pint beef stock
Parsley and thyme, half tsp each
1 bay leaf
salt and freshly ground black pepper
2 15ml/2tbsp tomato puree
Pre-cook 6-8 hours
No Pre-cooking 8-10 hours
1. Place the butter in a saucepan and heat until melted.
2. Add the steak and cook for 3-4 minutes.
3. Add the onion, garlic and mushrooms and cook for 2-3 minutes.
4. Add the flour and cook for 1 minute.
5, Stir in the remaining ingredients and bring to the boil.
6. Transfer to slow cooker and cook as recommended.
BRAISED BRISKET OF BEEF WITH VEGETABLES;
25g/1oz butter
1.5kg/3lb joint brisket
1 onion chopped
2 carrots chopped
300ml/half pint beef stock
salt and freshly ground black pepper
Pre-cook 6-8 hours
No pre-cooking 8-10 hours
1. Place butter in a large frying pan and heat until melted.
2. Add the meat and seal ( brown ) on all sides
3. Place the onion and carrots in the pan and cook for 2-3 minutes
4. Add the stock and bring to the boil
5. Transfer to slow cooker and cook as recommended
6. Thicken the stock with cornflour if required
CHOCOLATE AND ORANGE PUDDING;
50g/2oz pudding rice
600ml/1 pint milk 25g/1oz chocolate powder ( cocoa 0
25G/1OZ CASTER SUGAR
GRATED RIND AND JUICE OF 1 ORANGE.
1. lightly butter the inside of the stoneware bowl
2. Place all the ingredients in the bowl and stir
3. Cook as recommended

POACHED PEARS WITH CARAMEL SAUCE;
4 medium ripe pears
75g/3oz caster sugar
1.5 litres/3 pints cold water
1 15ml/1 tbsp lemon juice
SAUCE;
50g/2oz butter
75g/3oz soft light brown sugar
50g/2oz granulated sugar
150g/5oz golden syrup
142ml/5 fl oz single cream
few drops vanilla essence
1. Peel pears leaving stalk intact. Take a small slice off the base of the pear so it sits upright
2. Switch on the slow cooker. Place the caster sugar, water and lemon juice in the stoneware bowl and stir until the sugar has dissolved
3. Add the pears, cover with the lid and cook as recommended. Drain and remove.
4. For the sauce, place th butter, sugar and syrup in a saucepan and heat gently until the sugar dissolves. Then boil for 4-5 minutes
5. Stir in the cream and vanilla essence and serve with the pears.

Casserole/stew
I make bbq chicken in mine. I use bbq sauce, pasatta and chicken breast and let it cook for at least 6 hours. It's so tender and tastes lovely.
I also like to make a thai green curry and then leave it in the slow cooker for a couple of hours.
large chunks of lamb, (small ones dry out)
chopped onions
half jar of capers
full bulb of garlic - cloves put in unpeeled
half bottle of wine (or full if you prefer)
half pint stock (not needed if full bottle or wine)
some new potatoes
I make this regularly and put in slow cooker before i go to work - I am a great believer in cheating so i buy pack of pre-chopped onions and often lazy prechopped garlicYou can add jar of caramelised onoins too.
It smells fab and is so lovely to come home to.

For 2.
2 pieces fillet steak cut 3" thick.
2 leeks cut into 1 " circles'
2 carrots cut into 1 " circles.
Red wine.
About 15 musrooms.
2 cloves of garlic.
Scrape of ginger.
Gravy powder.
Chuck it all in, add half a pint of water, 2 table spoons of gravy powder and half a cup of red wine. If poss you should keep an eye on it. Add water to keep it nice and thick or runny. Depends how you like your gravy? Cook for about 4 hours. Make garlic mash with butter and fresh cream. Add a pinch of salt n pepper to taste. Enjoy.
Slow cookers and agars are the best.
beef carbonade( beef in beer)
I cook soups, stews, roast, chops,meatballs, spagetti sauce, chili, meatloaf dinner, and desserts in mine. I use it quite abit.

3-4 pound beef roast
1 enevelope dry onin soup mix
14.5 oz. can stewd tomatoes
place roast in slowcooker. cover with soup and tomatoes. cook 8 hours on low.

1 medium onion, sliced
1 medium carrot, peeled, sliced
1 medium celery stalk, sliced
6 boneless skinless chicken thighs (1-1/2 lb.), cut into bite-size pieces
1/3 cup firmly packed brown sugar
1/3 cup KRAFT CATALINA Dressing
1/4 cup soy sauce
1 tsp. grated gingerroot
1 can (8 oz.) pineapple chunks, drained, liquid reserved
1 Tbsp. cornstarch
1 medium green pepper, sliced
1 medium red pepper, sliced
4-1/2 cups hot cooked rice
PLACE onions, carrots and celery in slow cooker; top with chicken.
ADD combined brown sugar, dressing, soy sauce and ginger. Cover with lid.
COOK on LOW for 7 to 8 hours (or on HIGH for 3-1/2 to 4 hours). During last 30 min. of cooking time, increase to HIGH. Stir cornstarch into reserved pineapple liquid; add to slow cooker along with the pineapple and peppers. Cook 30 min. or until peppers are crisp-tender and sauce is thickened. Serve over the rice.

19.9 g dry Italian-style salad dressing mix
224 g cream cheese
1 (10.75 ounce) can condensed cream of chicken soup
DIRECTIONS
Put chicken, margarine and dressing mix in slow cooker; mix together and cook on low for 5 to 6 hours.
Add cream cheese and soup, mix together and cook on high for another 1/2 hour or until heated through and warm

Newman's Own Balsamic Vinaigrette Salad Dressing,
two tablespoons chopped garlic,
depending on roast size small, 3+lbs small bottle, large roast 5+lbs lg bottle, do not use the light dressing, slow cook until tender, sometimes just toward the end,
about an hour I throw in 8oz of baby portabella mushrooms,
vinegar will cook off.....
