Frosting, Icing, Cream. What's the diff?!
Is one healthier?
I personally like frosting better. Chocolate frosting.. yum.
Answers: What's in them that's difference? How are they made?

Some people use frosting and icing interchangeably. However, they are not. Frosting is usually powdered sugar with a fat that is whipped for volume. Icing is often cooked, and is usually a glaze. These are usually whipped (not to be confused with cookie icing). Cream - I only know of cream cheese frostings and they are whipped with a lot of sugar. Whipped Cream requires the cake to be chilled so is usually reserved for a dessert of some kind rather than a cake.
Which is healthier? Well, none actually. Tons of sugar. If health is your concern, use Cool Whip and add some sprinkles.
Here's a link to an old fashioned cooked frosting that is quite low on sugar, not so low on fat.

cream is healtyerr.
I don't know if this is right but I always think of frosting as what comes in the can from the store - icing as what you make at home (like homemade buttercream icing). Whipped icing is the healthiest!
Great question... I dont think I can answer that..... I dont even kno what I like better they are both so tasty
i have no clue. but i like every one of them. i like icing, cream, and frosting!!!!!!!!
in my part of the country (NE US) cream is the heavy cream used for whipping or what you put in your coffee
icing is... its like a mixture of mostly powdered sugar and a bit of cream, so its the runny stuff. Almost like the icing on glazed donuts. and frosting is the stuff on cakes
Frosting and Icing are the same things only labeled differently in different parts of the country or world. Creams and fillings are the same things only labeled differently according to where the recipe comes from.
Here is to "Death by Chocolate Cake"!! It has 7 different forms of chocolate in or on it!!
Frosting and icing I would categorise as the same. Though frosting to me would be the buttercream type while the thin drizzle type of topping such as what is found atop a lemon drizzle cake or texas brownies I would call icing.
The terminology of "to ice or frost" a cake means the same thing.
Cream is just that, a dairy product which sometimes is augmented with sweetener and flavouring.
My personal favourite is chocolatebutter cream as well. The recipe on the side of the Hershey's box of cocoa powder is simply the best (when made with 2/3 c cocoa).
Cheers
i think frosting and icing is the same thing
frosting is thicker than icing
the only minor diff. i think is that frosting is used for like larger amounts (eg. the part that covers the entire cake) and icing is for the decorative parts
normally made with icing sugar, milk, butter, raw egg (sometimes)
(there's a whole debate on the diff., depends where u live?)
cream is more light (whipped topping)
normally made from cream thats beat up
frosting (1 tsp) 23 calories (Betty Crocker Decorating Icing )
icing (1 tsp) 25 (Betty Crocker Rich & Creamy Frosting)
cream (1 tsp) 4 Cool Whip
*remember chool whip is whipped up thats why the calorie count is so low
i think cool whip is healthier, because of the air and you will feel more full because while ur eating it, u will be swallowing air :P
just keep in mind, they still have a high sugar content, so they should still be eaten sparingly
Frosting and icing are basically the same.... Cream is what you pour into your coffee, unless you mean Whipped Cream. I don't think there's any socially redeeming nutritional value to icing OR frosting, unless you consider sugar a vegetable (since it comes from a sugar beet), and the wee amount of vitamins in real butter ..... Whipped Cream would be least UNhealthy, since it should have the least amount of sugar
Icing is really thin, almost soupy at first. Its usually what you would use to ice cookies.
Frosting is just like your basic butter-cream frosting for cakes & such.
Cream, like a whipped cream topping I think is the best, although it has to stay refrigerated. Depending on the type of cream you use and how you flavor it, it can be a healthier option.
The frosting are mostly like you buy in the cans in the store are mostly sugar, as are the 'icings'. Ordering a cake from a bakery & getting butter-cream, is all butter & sugar
