Is there a substitute for "Shortening" (lard) when baking?!

Question: There's a recipe I'm wanting to try, but it calls for "shortening"(lard), which I do not have. Is there another ingredient, such as butter, that I can substitute the lard with?

You can use vegetable oil instead of shortening. If you want to make it fat free or reduced fat you can use pureed applesauce or babyfood prunes in substitute of shortening. Vegetable oil is a better sub than butter. If you absolutely had to use butter make sure it's unsalted butter.

Butter, margarine or veg. oil.

idk

butter or crisco vegetable shortening

It's also called 'Puff paste shortening'

Use margarine
