Can you put any food combination in a casserole?!

Question: I don't cook much and I need things fast and easy for my husband so I tried steaming rice, chicken, brown sugar, garlic, water and cheese in my steamer, but, the steamer kept shutting off because of to much chicken or to little water. So I threw everything into a glass dish, added some chicken noodle soup to it and am cooking it at 375 for 50 minutes in the oven. Do you think it will turn out okay? Could I still call it a casserole? Would you like it? What easy casseroles have you invented?

You know what? My mother used to cook casseroles all the time. If it was in the refrigerator or out of a can it was in a casserole.

To this day I dislike them unless they are something out of the ordinary and much unlike what I was use to growing up.

I would have to say my favorite casserole is...

Poppy Seed Chicken Casserole

5 boneless chicken breasts, cooked
1 can cream of chicken soup
8 ounces sour cream
4 cups Ritz crackers
1 stick butter, melted
1 tablespoon poppy seeds

Cut chicken breasts up into small chunks. Coat a casserole dish with non-stick cooking spray. In a bowl, mix chicken, cream of chicken soup and sour cream. Dump this mixture into the casserole dish and spread evenly.

Crush crackers and mix with melted butter. Spoon cracker mixture over chicken. Sprinkle poppy seeds on top. Bake uncovered at 350 degrees for 30 minutes or until lightly browned.

I hate to say this but it sounds horrible to me. Kudos for experimenting!! I just dont get the brown sugar and chicken noodle soup. I would have maybe used a cream of chicken instead and maybe a veggie like peas.

hmm, i'd like to try it. So you have chicken, noodles and cheese in a glas dish? Sounds like a casserole to me!

I didn't invent the tator tot casserole but it's a big hit here at home.

Quiche casserole is good and so is bangers and mash. My mom makes a shredded potatoe and cheese cassserole and the best is her Christmas morning casserole - sausage, egg, cheese/ mmmm so good!

the only thing i would take out of recipe is the brown sugar ,,, add a cream soup instead

It sounds okay - but not great... kind of bland, even with the garlic.

Next time, try this rule - use one of each
carb
protein
vegetable
liquid
seasonings

For example: pasta or rice, chicken or tuna or other meat, peas & carrots or mushrooms & onions, a broth or cream soup, and plenty of seasonings that you think would go well with the other ingredients.

And, anything topped with melted cheese & breadcrumbs is going to be better than without a topping!
