  • You put spices in it. That is what it means to devil it. Usually things like salt, pepper, garlic, onions. Anything which is hot. Top it with paprika.

EDIT: Normally you take cooled hard-boiled eggs and slice them in half length-wise, then remove the yolks into a bowl. Most people add a little mayonnaise or Miracle Whip to the yolks, then add other spices and blend it all together, but it isn't necessary to add the mayo. Then you scoop the mixture back into the area of the egg half that you removed the yolk from, making a little mound of it since it now has more to it than the yolk you removed. Sprinkle paprika on top to give it some colour and to add more spice to it.

But the eggs aren't considered deviled unless you add spices to them. Simply adding mayo doesn't make them deviled. Deviled in this case means making something spicy or hot. They don't have to be very spicey but they can't be bland.

Hard-boil them, slice them in half, take out the yolks, whip them with some mayo (and whatever else you want to put in--I think relish is a typical ingredient), put the whipped yolks back in the whites, and serve.

    by sprinkling paprika on it

You boil the eggs, peel off the shell, cut in half, take out all the yolks and place in a bowl, place the cut hard-boiled part (the whites) of the egg and sit them on a plate. Take the bowl yolks and mash them up. Add mayo and Gulden's Spicy Brown Mustard, mash well. Then, place the mixture into the white part of the egg. And, vwa-lah, you have deviled eggs. Add paprika on top for extra flavor.

You hardboil them. Peel them and cut them in half, lengthwise. Then scoop out the yolks. Blend the yolks with mayo and spices (there are a million different recipes). Then spoon a dob of the mixture back into the bowl of the boiled, sliced, hollowed eggwhites.

    They are quite tasty.

many people make what they call deviled eggs, by simply mixing the yolk with mustard and mayo, but to make a real deviled egg, you have to add a small can of deviled ham to the cooked yolks befor stuffing the whites. (Hard boil the eggs, cut in half, take out the yolk, mash with the mayo, ham, diced onion, and replace the mix into the white. Sprinkle with paprika)

You boil a bunch of eggs, then slice them in half the long way. Scoop out the yolks (yellow part) from all the eggs and put them in a bowl. Add mayo and spices to the yolks and mash into a pastey mess. Spoon the gunk into the white halves and you've deviled your eggs.

hard boiled eggs peeled cut in half (lenght wise) with yoke removed
the yoke is mashed and mixed with minced onion, mayo, a bit of yellow mustard and for some, a bit of creamy horseradish (to taste) and a little garlic (not much)
add this yoke mixture into a "Glad" 1 gallon freezer bag pushing all of the yoke ingredients to one bottom corner of the bag. Snip a 1/4 inch off of this corner and squeeze the ingredients into the white egg half's sprinkle with paprika if you like

To "devil" anything is an old english term meaning "to make more tempting" or appealing. When exotic spices were brought back to Europe along the spice road, many conservative Christians consider anything brought back from Asia "pagan" and evil. Curry, pepper, even coffee were considered "evil". The Pope finally intervened and settled the matter, but abstaining from spices is still practiced by some Christians today. One notably was General Thomas "Stonewall" Jackson, who abstained from pepper because "he found that he liked it too much".

hard boil, shell, cut in half, scoop out yolk. Mash with Mayo.
I like to add Worchestershire sauce to give it a kick. I also add a dash of cayenne pepper or tabasco sauce, and some garlic powder.
If you have a cake decorating/canape kit, you can use that to fill the egg yolks to make them look a little fancier. If you do use this, you shouldn't put any chunky things in the mix, like onion, ham, etc. That's why I use garlic powder.
    Sprinkle with paprika.
    Best to serve them chilled.
    Enjoy.

they r called devils cuz they r SOOOOO FATNING!! i am pretty sure u know what they r claire!!! hahaha it is just like DEVILS FOOD CAKE! it is fatning and it make u gain weight! get it??? u know my answer was the best!!!

you hard boil eggs, shell them, and then cut them in half long way. gently scoop out the yolks and put in a bowl. mix in relish, mustard and mayo until the taste suits you. then put in a sandwich bag. snip off the corner and then pipe the mix back into the empty eggs. by doing this, clean up is a breeze, and you won't get the mix everywhere! trust me...works like a charm. then sprinkle the top with paprika and enjoy!

You devil them by putting different spices on them.
