boil

Personally my favorite is to bake it just like a baked potato

I put mine in the crock pot with mollasses, brown sugar, cinnamon and a touch of Vanilla. I don't eat them but there are never any left overs after a holiday dinner. I let them cook all day.

I can't think of any method that's not suitable for yams. I have prepared them by baking, boiling, frying, mashing, etc. I can't think of a way that I use white potatoes that I wouldn't try with yams except I don't think I'd try Au Gratins! And certain seasonings, like cinnamon and brown sugar, are better with yams than with white potatoes.

Peel raw yams and put them in a pan. Cover with a salted water and boil until tender. Drain. Add sugar and butter. Mash and eat.

Yams can also be cooked without peeling. Put them in a pan, cover with salted water and boil until tender. Drain. Cool and peel. Slice and serve. Have butter, sugar, salt, pepper and cinnamon available for dipping.

The yams can also be fried like french fries. Peel and cut yams into strips. After frying sprinkle with sugar.

You can also bake them.

bake (like baked potatoes ... or in casseroles with butter, brown sugar, sometimes orange juice - some people put marshmellows on top too) ... for fried (chips and French fries) ... TEMPURA (they're the BEST) ....in sweet potato salad (so cold) ...... basically, any way you'd make any other kind of potato:)

toaster over on LOOOOOOW temp

You can cook yams/sweet potatoes in any manner that you would a regular potato. They make delightful scones, cookies, breads/ rolls, and awesome candies. They are wonderful in stews/ soups, delectable roasted with a savory seasoning or a sweet one, and perfect baked and served plain, or topped with carmelized pecans, and a touch of maple syrup. You can make chips or fries with them and you can add them to casseroles, stir fries, and more. They fit into many baked goods recipes, and can be used interchangeably with carrots. Yams have a limitless potential.

They also are great to lower glucose levels in diabetics. On the glycemic index, they are a very healthy low carb choice.

I really love grilled yams, they are very easy to make and they create their own glaze on the grill, so delicious.

When I cook them at all, I just bake them. Never found a better thing to do with 'em.

Baked yams. I cut my yams into fairly small pieces and place them in a deep pan. I put lots of melted butter, white & brown sugar with a little vanilla flavoring. I let it bake until the yams are nice & tinder. They are delicious that way
