start with what was listed for recipes in the instriction manual and build from there. Once you know the basics of crock pot cookery, you can modify almost any recipe to fit. There are some great books out there as well and great recipes archived on this site

I really recommend the chicken tortilla soup (the highest rated version)
It has a section on slow cooker recipes.
I use this website all the time.
swiss steak
cube steak
1 onion cut up
32 oz can tomatoes
1 tablespoon minced garlic
cook 6 hours on high
serve over rice
Put 4-5 boneless chicken breasts in the crock pot. (You can use bone-in chicken, but I find boneless easier, because you have to remove all the bones after.) Pour a bottle of barbecue sauce with 1/2 cup of water over the chicken. Add whatever veggies you like (potatoes, carrots, onions, etc.) Cook on low heat for about 8-10 hours. Yum!!!
These are really good. I add a lot of pepper to these and they are wonderful!!!
I also use chicken broth instead of water.
Slow Cooker Chicken and Dumplings
INGREDIENTS
4 skinless, boneless chicken breast halves
2 tablespoons butter
2 (10.75 ounce) cans condensed cream of chicken soup
1 onion, finely diced
2 (10 ounce) packages refrigerated biscuit dough, torn into pieces
DIRECTIONS
Place the chicken, butter, soup, and onion in a slow cooker, and fill with enough water to cover.
Cover, and cook for 5 to 6 hours on High. About 30 minutes before serving, place the torn biscuit dough in the slow cooker. Cook until the dough is no longer raw in the center.
hopefully you got a 6 qt , if not exchange it , you can't do a 6 qt recipe in a 4 qt cooker. you'll find most recipes are for 6 qt. remember 1 thing about these recipes , any left over juices should be saved {frozen } for the next great dish you make . i canned 4 qts praline pork broth from Easter dinner + will use it w/a pork tenderloin in my cooker next week or so . that is the best advice you'll get here , why use water every time when you can use the broth from another dish you made . Add potatoes later during your cooking so they don't get overdone , same w/ rice. Good luck !
