Cooking Help...?!
Answers: I am just learning how to cook... it's sad, I know. I'm 21. But I have never made steak before and my boyfriend would like to have steak for dinner. His oven doesn't work so I have to do it on the stove. I was just going to add some oil and cook until it looked done but does anyone have any advice or tips on how to make it tender, keep the flavor, that kind of thing. I'm also trying to manage my time... anyone know how long it might take? Oh and by the way... the steak is boneless. Thanks for any help you can offer!
A marinade will keep it tender. I like Lawry's best: Baja Chipolte, or Hickory or Mesquite. You'd want to sear them (higher heat) quickly on both sides, to seal in the juice, then cook them a little slower until they're done to your liking (obviously longer for well-done than for rare:) Don't poke any holes in the steak, or the juices will run out. Some people do that, thinking the marinade will sink in better:) ... Have fun, and don't worry:) 21 is definitely not too late to learn to cook! some people NEVER learn!
Well, the first thing is to cook it in hot butter, not oil. and assuming that the steak is a tender cut, and not a piece of chuck, you should plan on about 3 minutes per side. You should plan to let the steak rest on the platter for about 5 minutes to allow the juices to settle. Enjoy
Well like I've said before it's never too late to learn something new. Have no fear my oldest daughter can't make steam. If you are lucky enough to have a cast iron skillet then no oil should be used as the pan should be seasoned (used enough to hold some of the oils on the skillet. Season with what you like salt, pepper, a little garlic powder. The less time a steak is cooked the more tender it is. Many people like their steak well done, I like mine barely pink inside. I thought they were both helpful.
HERES what I would do:
Get a pan and use that as your "oven" season the steak with some garlic powder, onion powder, salt and pepper. Then, wrap the steak with a little bit of butter, and a small amount of water. Sautee onions and put then in there as well, wrap the steak in plastic wrap first then wrap it in foil. Put in in a pan, and over it, flip the steak every five minnutes. After its been on for about 15 mins, open one and see if the outside it cooked, if so check on how pink it is in the middle, whatever he liked (rare, medium, or well) is what you should cook it like. Make a baked potatoe and some green beans, and WAM...perfect man meal to make you both happy :) :)
good luck-
