Freezing bell peppers?!
Answers: i am in the process of julienning WAY too many bell peppers. I have green, yellow, red, and orange. They were on sale for 79 cents a lb. I plan on freezing them if I can find a way where they wont turn to mush. Can i just put them in the freezer, or do i have to blanch them? do i have to take any special precautions so that they are not soggy when i go to use them?
For many years I have diced up bell peppers, put them in a ziplock bag and right into the freezer. They are fine for cooking later. If you eating them raw in a salad, they may be a little squishy, but not bad. They still have the great bell pepper flavor.
Vacuum seal would be best but blanching or grilling will work to keep them recipe ready. Good Luck!
Don't blanch them, they will be soggy. Just freeze in a zipper bag. They will be soft when thawed, but should be good for soups, stirfry's , ect.
I freeze peppers and onions. I just cut them and put them in freezer bags. They never come out crisp and fresh, always a little squishy.
I julienne mine and freeze them directly, and have never had mushy peppers when I thaw them.
Take your cut up peppers and vacuum seal them to freeze. No need to blanch or grill them.
I just put mine in a zip lock freezer bag and they are fine.
