Improving the flavour of Bisto gravy granules?!

Question: I still have half a jar of Bisto instant gravy granules at home I'm gradually working my way through (waste not, want not...) but I REALLY don't like the flavour. Really really really. I've tried a variety of additions to help them out - steak seasoning (salt, pepper, paprika), garlic and onion granules, various herbs, and most successfully, a combination of all the above, and Parmesan cheese as well.
Has anyone else got any suggestions? I find it too... musty tasting, maybe? Just sort of old, dusty, flavourless, not meaty enough... I'm only making for 2 so don't want to waste a stock cube. Am making steak tonight and good gravy makes such a difference!

i always buy chicken stock and beef stock when im at the grocery store just so i have it on hand, add some stock to give it more flavour have you tried making gravy with just stock, butter and flour
heat up 3tbsp butter in a saucepan
add 3tbsp flour whisking it together cook for a minute and then pour in the stock of your choice whisking until its thickened, you can also add salt and pepper and whatever seasoning you want
