How do you keep muffins from cracking on top?!
Never over-mix muffins...they should be under mixed if anything.
Answers: They must be baking too close to the top. Cracking happens when then heat is so high it makes a skin before it has time to rise all the way which is VERY fast in a muffin...Odds are you are following a recipe so have the heat on the right temp so the only thing left is where it is in the oven.

Brush lightly with butter before baking.
Slower baking (lower temperature). But I think it adds to the homeyness of their look.
