Using a slotted spoon remove the meat and veg chunks to a large oven proof dish or a bowl and set aside. Transfer the broth to a large cooking pot. Make a slurry (mix together) 1 heaped tablespoon all-purpose plain flour with 1/4 cup of water - OR - 1 heaped teaspoon corn flour and the same amount of water.

As the broth warms to a boil on the stove-top and stir the slurry in with a slotted spoon. Make sure you keep stirring the mixture to prevent lumps. If using plain flour, the thickening process will take several minutes. If using corn flour your broth will thicken quicker - warning; do NOT taste the broth with the same spoon as you are using to stir, when you put it back into the broth, the traces of saliva on the spoon will cause the thickening to breakdown.

If it isn't thickened enough, make more slurry and stir it in in small additions. Once you're happy with it, add back in the chicken and veggies to warm them, pour all back into your casserole dish and serve when ready.

Another way to thicken it is to make a batch of dumpling dough, drop in large spoonfuls atop the casserole and bake until dumplings are cooked through. The broth will thicken slightly and even if it is still a bit thin, no one will care as the added dumplings will be a great addition to the meal!

I'd never make a smart remark towards someone with the bravery to try and learn and make a meal - cheers to you!

PS - Another way which is even quicker; thicken a stew by adding instant mashed potatoe flakes! Start with 1/4 cup and add small amounts after that until thick enough

Flour?

corn starch

Just mix a tbsp of flour with your stock before you add it to the casserole. More if you want it even thicker.

little bit of flower and butter

italian bread crumbs..adds great flavor too!!!

cornflour mixed with a sup of water

use some cornflour if you have it.iwould just put ateaspoon straight in

flour

do a roux

4 tablespoons of pan drippings and/or butter
6 tablespoons flour

Heat fat or over medium high heat. Add flour all at once whisking vigorously. When mixture thins and starts to bubble, reduce heat to low and cut back on the whisking. Cook until you smell a toasty aroma then cook 2 minutes more, stirring occasionally.
Roux can be used immediately to thicken a liquid that is at or below room temperature. To thicken a hot liquid, allow roux to cool to room temperature, or refrigerate.

Make a slurry w/ cold water, about a half-cup, and 2 Tbsp. of cornstarch or flour. Whisk together, then stir into casserole ingredients. Pour into pan and bake.

You can also use a can of "Cream of whatever" soup, a homemade white sauce, or some minute Tapioca pearls (about 3 Tbsp).

flour works

the best thing is cornflour put 1 -2 teaspoons in a cup and add a small drop of cold water when runny just pot it in the casserole and it will start to thicken . dont put the corn flour in to hot food it just goes lumpy. enjoy

Mix a couple tablespoons of cornstarch in half a cup of water. Add a loittle to the casserole and see if it's thick enough.. If it isn't, add more. You can use flour and water if you don't have any cornstarch. Both would need to be cooked after adding to the casserole.

if you have any then chicken flavour bisto gravy granuels. i have made a beef casserole for tea and used a casserole mix but i mixed with to much water. i added gravy granuels and it thickened up lovely.

yeah defininatly flour.
its good stuff, flour.
do it

a bit of flour should do the trick

Yes to your cornflour idea

After the dish is cooked, but seems runny: I use parmasagn cheese (it HAS to be the stuff in the green container that is powderlike) to thicken my cassaroles. It gives an added flavor element. you don't want to add flour or cornstarch after your dish is cooked as it will mess up the dish completely.

if you are adding the thickener BEFORE it has been cooked then it is okay to use cornstarch or flour.

You can do any of the ideas listed before my answer, or you could add some uncooked rice, as it cooks it will soak up the stock.

Cornflour is probably your best option. Mix a little with some of the liquid to make a runny paste. Stir that into the casserole over a gentle heat. Keep stirring while it thickens, to avoid lumps. Once it starts to boil, it won't get any thicker.

Otherwise, powdered arrowroot is good; or potato flour.

Coconut cream works too, if it's compatible with the rest of your ingredients. It certainly goes well with chicken.

chicken gravy granules, just sprinkle in and stir till you get the thickness you want

just sprinkle silfed cornflour over ur cassoriole while cooking till u get the thickness u desire

YOU CAN USE CHICKEN BISTO GRANUALS, JUST SPRINKLE A SPOONFUL AND HEY PRESTO IT'S THICKENED, GOOD LUCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

A couple of spoonfuls of cornflour mixed with a little water to make a paste. Add slowly to mixture. Bring back to the boil.

Make a slurry of either cornstarch (cornflour for u Brits) or arrowroot and water or wine. Mix equal parts of cornstarch/arrowroot with the liquid. It will thicken as the casserole cooks - be careful you must test the amount you use or it will be too thick - so stir some in, let it heat up and check for consistency.

you can use corn flour and a drop of water. mix it to a paste and add a little at a time!

Its really too late to thicken with flour once your casserole is cooked, it could go lumpy and if you beat it to much to get the lumps out you will shred your chicken.
Cornflour will work, Gravy granules will make it very salty.
I find instant potato powder works wonders and doesn't alter the flavour of you dish

Well, what I use to thicken my killer chicken casserole is flour. LOTS AND LOTS of flour. It makes is yummy yet you can't taste it!! Miley Cyrus

cornstarch is a good thickening agent

cornflower - doesnt add any taste and does wonders to thicken things up
