A healthy bolognese?!
Answers: i need to make a spaghetti bolognese but i want it to be healthy, any ideas? thanx
well this is my recipe I call it meat sauce to make it health you can substitute turkey sausge for the regular sausage
if it's for two people use 1/2 lb of each meat if it's for four people use 1 lb of each meat
brown ground beef and sausage in skillet (take sausage out of casing and break into small peices) and minced garlic, and finely chopped onions and green peppers add garlic powder, s&p parsley oregano cook until tender ad a can of tomatoe sauce and diced tomatoes let simmer for about 15-20 mins adding spices to taste you prefer add some tomatoe paste to thicken sauce and a can of mushroom and some parm cheese and your done put over spagetti and enjoy
I am a former chef and for a healtier bolognese sauce think chicken or turkey ground mince, it is lower in fat and when I make it, I pulse the veg in my food processor to chop them fine, and I do use the classic method of adding some milk to the sauce, tomato products like paste, crushed or pureed even canned whole ones run throught the food processor (you do not have to wash it after the veg), slow cooking I will saute the meat then the veg, dump thelot into my crockpot and the milk and tomato products, seasonings/spices, I use dried spices like oregano, marjoram, thyme a very little basil as it is strong and parsley.
Mix it up, bring ot the boil, lower it to low and let it slow cook for 3-5 hour while out or at the shops, but if you have no slow cooker, even the same procedure and an oven at 300 d F or 140d C, Gas mark 2 for the same time is o.k. And for me there is only 2 pastas for bolognese, fresh taglitelle or fettucini, or if dried and nice Italian spaghetti even dried taglitelli nest are fine.
This low fat Spaghetti Bolognese is rich and satisfying, and easy to make.
