Can I freeze?!

Question: A plastic carton of sour cream. I bought two of them recently and haven't eaten the first one yet. Would it be ok to freeze the un-opened one?

DO NOT FREEZE ! It doesn't work at all. they seperate and tastes awful. It will keep in the frig for a very long time . Actually sour cream is a type of sour milk.

I think that it may crystalize and separate. I do not think it is a good idea to freeze the sour cream. But the good news is that it lasts unopened for quite a long time.

I am thinking no because I think it would tend to separate when it is thawed.

I dunno. But usually food containers have a toll free # for customer question. Call 'em, why dontcha.

No, I would not recommend it. Sour cream breaks down and seperates when frozen and thawed.

no

Sure. It may break down after thawing but you have nothing to lose.
It isn't hard to use up a carton of sour cream though, in potatoes, gravies, scrambled eggs (before they are cooked), cakes, salad dressings, herb dips, on top of veggies (especially beets), smeared over chicken to tenderize, in quacamole, on all mexican foods, and I think that just scratches the surface.

Get creative.

No, you can not freeze sour cream.

The texture will get grainy. It will never have the creamy consistency again, even if you stir it.

Store the unopened one upside down in your fridge, this keeps air out and it keeps longer. Plus, check the expiration dates, sour cream is good for a long time usually so it will probably be fine. Or make lots of things that call for sour cream: tacos, stroganoff, chip dip, tuna salad made with half mayo and half sour cream.................I could go on and on.

Go ahead, if it separates when you thaw it, just use a wire whip to recombine. I wouldn't plan on using it for dipping, but it would be fine as part of a recipe.

nope, it will seperate.
