Help with cocoa powder?!
Answers: I love the taste of chocolate, but am struggling on how to use the can of unsweetened cocoa powder either in recipes or on foods. Due to some food sensitivities, traditional means (like chocolate chips, chocolate syrup) are out of the question. For example, I want to make chocolate-flavored oatmeal. I know how to cook the old fashioned Quaker oatmeal, but now how do I add the cocoa powder - it seems very bitter by itself. Thanks.
For oatmeal, just add enough sugar to make the cocoa powder taste sweeter. In other recipes, you can use sugar or powdered sugar. I like to make chocolate pancakes and add cocoa to the batter, it's yummy :)
You will need to add some type of sweetener, because cocoa is not a naturally-sweetened product. I would just add about a teaspoon or 2 of the cocoa powder as soon as the oatmeal is finished cooking, then sweeten to taste.
It may take a couple of times experimenting with the amount to get it to your liking.
Cocoa powder has no sugar, whatsoever, in it. That's why it tastes bitter:) You could mix some with sugar, and keep it in a little shaker to sprinkle on your cereal (or anything else)
