there are many recipes for pasta/tomato sauces. Pick the one that sounds best to you

Use a big can of crushed tomatoes, a big can of tomato sauce, one lb of hamburger, about four cloves of garlic, a medium yellow onion(chopped), and then some parsley, oregano, and basil to taste. Let it cook for about two hours to really set the flavor. Brown the burger in the onion and garlic before you start, then add the rest.

i need more info on what your trying to make and what your putting it with thank you

slice and saute fresh garlic in olive oil on med-low (don't let it brown - just enough to flavor the oil). add a 32oz can of crushed tomatoes, tbsp of sugar, a little oregano, salt and pepper to taste, then right before serving add some fresh basil. yummo

ge some tamato past fry it in garlic and oil till it turns orange or at least lightens in color. after that ad water to water it down add italian seasonings like basil and oregono and more garlica and let it cook for about an hour.

I do this and it is really nice. Sorry i have no measurements becuase i just sort of change it everytime but it always turnes out really nice.

Fry half an onion
Add some herbs (which ever you like)
Chopped tinned tomatoes
A big splash of white wine
pinch of salt
pepper

Just put things in you can't go that wrong and you will surprise yourself!
have fun

If I were you, I would follow that recipe right down there for the world's best sauce. It is about the same as the one I was going to post. Also I have found that Hunts is the best brand of canned tomatoes and tomato sauce. To me, it really does matter what brand when it comes to that part. Happy cooking!

Wow,prego is the best! I suppose if you get bored, you can mix and match different types of sauces together to get a bolder flavor, or take a plain marinara, and add whatever you like to it,such as more veggies, cheese, ground beef, or meatballs,garlic,mushrooms,..ext.

Homemade tomato sauce (gravy) can be made a thousand different ways, all starting with lots of squished tomatoes. AFter that, the ingredients are up to you. Garlic, basil. parsely, oregano, dices onions, mushrooms, meat or no meat, chili or no chili powder, the list is endless.

One thing is the same though, the longer it simmers the thicker and heartier and more condensed will be the flavors.

There are so many different recipes for homemade sauce. I make mine homemade and use a simple recipe that my Italian grandma gave me.

Take a little olive oil and put it in a pot...just cover the bottom of the pan with the oil. Saute some chopped up onions until you can see through them or they are lightly browned (about a half cup to a cup, depending on how much sauce you are making and how much you like onions). And, chop up some garlic and saute that as well. Again, you can use as much or as little garlic as you like...I use a couple of cloves. I then add two large cans...the 28 ounce size...of tomato puree. Now, this is the point that I add the spices and I really don't have measurements for them. I add some Oregano and Basil, salt and pepper, and then I add a little more chopped up garlic. You don't have to add more garlic, but we like garlic. Also, add a couple of tablespoons of sugar. This takes that acid bite out of the tomato sauce. If you like the acid bite, don't add the sugar. But, you will find that the store bought sauce also adds sweetener, so you might be accustomed to that taste. Simmer the sauce on low for awhile. It will thicken up a bit as it simmers. If you find it is too thin and want to serve it quickly, add some tomato paste to the sauce and allow it to heat through. Sauce usually tastes best when it has been allowed to cook for an hour or two or longer. But, it still tastes fine if it doesn't cook that long.

When you are adding the oregano and basil start out adding a little bit...maybe a teaspoon of each...let it cook for a bit and see how you like the flavor...you can always add more.

I hope this helps. Good luck!!

some times i put Italian sausage in it sometimes i put peperoni

korkie

3 tablespoons olive oil
1 onion, chopped
4 cloves garlic, minced
2 (29 ounce) cans tomato sauce
1 (14.5 ounce) can stewed tomatoes
1 green bell pepper, chopped
1 (4.5 ounce) can mushrooms, drained and chopped
1/4 teaspoon garlic salt
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper
1/4 teaspoon onion powder
1/4 teaspoon dried oregano
1/4 teaspoon Italian seasoning

cook together till thick and chunky add meat or veg of your choice then serve with pasta

In a large pot saute diced onions and garlic (and any chopped vegetables you like in your sauce) until carmelized and a little browned. Add canned salt-free diced tomatoes, chopped basil, oregano, parsley, a little red wine, a splash of balsamic vinegar, and salt and pepper to taste. Let simmer for a couple hours over low heat. If you want to add meat, brown the meat and add to the sauce after it is done simmering. You can also add parmesan cheese at the end if you want.

And, now, for something different! How about thinking outside of that box or can or jar you've been buying! But, something almost as simple! Try this:

Tomato Sauce with Fresh Mozzarella -
1/4 cup olive oil
1 cloves garlic, finely chopped
1/4 teaspoon crushed red pepper
1 pound fresh tomatoes, seeded & coarsely chopped
1 teaspoon oregano
1/2 teaspoon salt (or less)
Black pepper to taste
1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
8 ounces fresh mozzarella cheese, diced & at room temperature
1/2 cup fresh basil leaves, coarsely chopped
+ Pasta - 12 oz. of linguine would be a good choice

1. Combine all EXCEPT: basil & mozzarella (& the pasta, of course) - in your pasta serving bowl (save dishes!). Set aside to warm to room temperature.

2. Cook pasta as directed, until al dente. Drain pasta & immediately add to the sauce bowl. Sprinkle wit basil & mozzarella, toss until cheese melts slightly. Serve at once.

Enjoy the food & the lack of lots of clean up too! A nice glass of white wine would be a good compliment, along with some warm bread.
