Toad in the hole - how can I stop it sticking to the pan?!

Question: On several occassions (including tonight) I have made toad in the hole and have had it stick to the pan. I use the same batter as I do for yourkshire puds (which don't stick) and plenty of hot oil, but still it sticks.

Any suggestions?

use a glass ovenproof dish, brown the sausages first, they will provide all the fat you need. add the batter.perfect every time!

Heat the pan, get it hot, then the oil (cold into the hot pan - not too much) then the food. The pan was likely not hot enough. Weird, but true.

Edit - sorry, was thinking of birds in a nest (eggs in toast) No idea why the batter would stick just on that dish. Hopefully someone else will have a better answer. Maybe grease/butter the dish more?

I grease the pan with butter first - seems to work for me

It is probably because of the fat from the sausages, try lining the pan with greaseproof paper and oiling it next time.

Maybe a new pan is in order. A good quality one with teflon non-stick coating.

Can someone explain what toad in the hole is please? Sounds interesting.

I suggest you wipe around it with virgin olive oil when its cold then add your bit of oil and see what happens,

make sure u brown your bangers in a pan first then put them in hot dish with hot oil. works for me. good luck.
