Bought Cube Steak instead of Round Steak...can I still use cube steak for my crockpot pepper steak recipe?!

Question: I didn't read the recipe before buying the ingredients and bought the cube steak instead of round. I have always used round, and it has worked great...but I'm in a pinch and need to know if it will still work. Usually I cut the round steak into strips, and toss with ginger and soy sauce and add peppers and onions and simmer in the crock pot on low all day. I have cube steak all cut up...but when I noticed the meat wasn't cutting the same as I remembered, I checked the recipe again and lo and behold, i got the wrong meat. Can I still use the cube steak in this recipe? Or will it just fall apart like ground beef?

it should be fine...cube steak is made from round traditionally...and the slow cooker will work wonders for it...it's more about the property of the cut...same cut ....just abused a bit...but it will hold up...it's not ground...just tenderized

If I were as far along in the prep as you seem to be, I'd go ahead and finish it. I doubt it will fall apart and be like ground beef, but it won't be exactly like plain round steak would be. I think it will still be a good meal though. It might fall into bite size pieces; so what? Serve it over rice--how bad can it be?? Good luck!

Yup, shouldn't be a problem.

Sure , it will work just fine. it won't fall apart like ground beef. Although it looks like ground beef. It isn't made from ground beef. It's just a more tender cut of stea. Your pepper steak should still be really good !

yep.. i'll be just fine..
slow cookers tend to make any type meat extremely tender.. so beef is beef.. tastes the same.. just the textures are different when broiling, bbqing etc.. but slow cooking makes them all mouth wateringly tender...
mmmm!.. can I come over for supper?
