Have you heard of any good Strata recipes......?!

Question: I have never heard of Strata before....I found a recipe in my healthy heart cook book and found Artichoke Cheddar Strata. It sounds so good and I would like to see a picture. I looked online and can't find a picture of a strata recipe. Can you help find one for me. Also...if you have ever made any type of Strata recipe...can you tell me what you thought and how you made it. Thanks!!!

Strata is like a casserole- my strata recipe:

8 slices white bead
8 oz. sliced mozz. cheese
2 cans (14oz. size) sliced tomatoes (or sliced fresh)
13 oz can sliced mushrooms, drained (or sauteed fresh)
1 med. onion, thinly sliced into rings
5 eggs
3 cups milk
1 tsp. salt
1 tsp. oregano
pinch of garlic salt
some parmesan cheese
some sliced black olive

Using a cookie cutter, donut cutter or lid from a jar, cut bread into shapes or circles. Set aside. Place bread scraps in bottom of buttered 13" by 9" baking dish. Layer half of the cheese over bread. Arrange half of the tomatoes and all of the onion rings and mushrooms over the cheese. Cover with the rest of the cheese. Arrange the bread shapes on the cheese. Put slices of the tomato in the center of each bread shape. Combine slightly beaten eggs, milk, salt, oregano and garlic salt. Pour over the bread. Sprinkle with parmesan cheese and dot with olives. Cover. Refrigerate for 6 hours or overnight. Bake 1-1/2 hours in a 325 degree oven, or until knife comes out clean. Let stand for 5 minutes or until firm

A strata is an egg & bread based casserole, often served for brunch. They're convenient b/c you can do a lot of the prep ahead of time. The recipe you found sounds like it would be good.

Here's a good strata recipe with a pic:

~ I would probably bake it in a pan,,,,,,,,,,,then I would mark it with a " B ",,,put it back in the oven,,,,,,,,,that would be for baby and me,,,,,,,, (to eat when everyone else is sleeping )

My family LOVES stratas. We make all different kinds but they are all basically the same; a layer of buttered bread(butter side down), a layer of filling, another layer of bread then pour an egg mixture over (sometimes more cheese on top) and bake. We have made peanut butter and jelly stratas, Chicken and cheese; veggie ones with brocccoli/peppers/ onions / mushrooms / olives / pepper cheese; sausage and potato, etc. Pretty much anything will work. You can change the bread you use for variety too. Raisin bread is good for the PB & J strata. Another good thing is you can make them ahead and pop them in the oven about an hour or so before you plan to eat.
