Do you ever cook Leeks?!

Question: I know a plumber who mends them

Answers: I know a plumber who mends them

yes. Steam them.

I did when I was a cook in a restaurant. We mostly used them for soups, but there were a few other dishes we used them in.

I use them when I make vegetable soup. MMMMMM Lovely.

Yeah either to have in a sauce with fish or with potatoes in a soup.

Yes I love them, they're great in a soup or casserole.

Steamed is nice. Boiling leaves them soggy. If you fry them gently with some herbs till they are crunchy - they are lovely!

Lovely with sausages and onions with gravy.

Nice in casseroles too.

Great in stews and make a great sandwich

Yes, when I'm making soup.

I chop them and soak them steam them and elongate them
(shoe protector)But enough of the secrets of the Leek.Or you
wouldn't ask.

sounds painful >.<

Yes. Normally use them in stews and home made broths.

Yes. Lovely cooked in a cream and cheese sauce

Yes everyday !!

I honestly bought my first leek last week....and now I'm hooked! They are lovely!!!!!! (Was looking for variety in my vegies...I'm on a diet!)
I've just been browning them lightly with onions and garlic, then adding other vegies and a bit of water, and puttling a lid on for them to steam.......yummy!

Yes I steam or boil, or roast (In butter)
Lovely with three cheese sauce ,

They are a wonderful vegetable to serve braised with chops esp. lamb or pork.

Cut off the tough green part and cut length-wise in half (save the ends for soup or toss if you don't do that sort of thing)

Clean thoroughly there will be some dirt in between some of the leaves.

Heat up some olive oil and butter in a pan with a bit of sliced garlic and put in face down and saute until browned (not too dark) turn over carefully and after browning a bit... Turn down the heat way down and put some chicken stock (or whatever stock you have) and put a lid on it.

Finish cooking your chops and plate up the rest of your meal and serve on the side. They are tender and tasty and look very nice!

Leeks are amazing! Don't miss out on them. They are amazing as a base for soups, stews, risottos, stocks and also work fantastically as a roast vegetable side.
Try slicing them thinly and sautéing in butter until soft then fold them through a creamy mash to serve with chicken or fish.
