What can i use instead of a silpat for cooking?!
Answers: in this recipe they use a silpat but i dont own any. what shuld i do instead? should i grease, flour, or use wax paper?!help!
Wax paper will not melt and will not stink up your kitchen. It will burn though if exposed to direct heat. You can use it to line cake pans if that is what you are baking. Silpat is the brand name for silicon sheets and are pricey and used for their non-sticking properties. I suspect you are making cookies. If so use a non-stick cookie sheet or your plain cookie sheet that you have greased or lined with parchment paper.
have no idea what a silpat is.... unless it's a silicone baking sheet. If it is, then parchment paper should work just fine... or Pam baking spray
Baking parchment is sort of like waxed paper without the wax and can be purchased in the baking department of a grocery store or bulk food store.
In a pinch, use waxed paper, but I warn you, it's going to smell (as the wax melts).
NOT WAXED PAPER!!!!! THE WAX WILL MELT AND MOST LIKELY STINK UP YOUR WHOLE HOUSE. IF IT'S COOKIES, JUST USE THE BARE COOKIE SHEET. THE SILPAT JUST HELPS WITH STICKING AND CLEAN UP. NOT REALLY A NECESSITY.
What is the recipe for?
Just use parchment paper.
you should use plain parchment paper, not wax paper instead of the silpat. Wax paper will actually melt and that's messy and gross. silpat is just a non-stick layer for your pan. if you don't have plain parchment paper, use a nonstick pan, and also grease it or spray with pam.
