How can I make frozen fries taste better? (oven baked)?!

Question: Any ideas what makes the best fries?

Can I rub them with olive oil, salt and pepper before putting in the oven?

Should I put foil over the baking tray? (does it make a difference).

I want them tasty, crispy but not burnt!

Thanks

I use foil lined baking pan it doesnt make a difference only the cleanup is easier drizzle with evoo and rosemary, tyme, salt and pepper bake till crispy

also I let them thaw a bit then place in a single layer spray with pam or olive oil and sprinkle hidden valley ranch mix out of the packet right onto the fries bake and make enough to share any mix will work ie. onion dip, honey mustard, etc

I scrunch up the foil that's under them ... so air circulates around them to crisp them better. I also like Creole seasoning (or seasoned salt) on them. There are CRISPY frozen fries you can get though; that specifically made to be crispier....

I love french fries! I never got why they are called french fries though??

I'd turn them a couple of times so they are done on all sides and I like old bay seasoning sprinked on to make seasoned fries.

Try sprinkling the fries with dry onion soup mix. We do it with plain potatoes, and it tastes souper! (Spelling intended)

put chilli powder, dry mango powder and salt for a change and see the difference. just before serving, squeeze a lime over it and sprinkle sea salt.

Place crumpled foil on the bottom of the pan. After cooking for 10 mins, sprinkle with sea or kosher salt.

place on foil on baking sheet. make only one layer. bake till almost done. stir. put fresh onion rings on top. bake till onions are just starting to brown. eat with buckets of ketchup, you can add salt, but it probably wont stick, i don't use salt, but you might like to try. this makes crunchy fries. if you rub with olive oil, they will be mealy (good kind of mealy) instead of crisp

You can buy fries that crisp in the oven. Ore-Ida makes one.

Yes, you can rub them with a little olive oil, garlic salt, pepper, or whatever you like. But, they aren't going to come out as good as home made French fries.

Why not just scrub a couple of potatoes and make your own oven fries? They aren't really all that much work and have much better flavor. Cheaper too!

Oven Fried Potatoes:
INGREDIENTS:

* 2 tablespoons olive oil
* 2 tablespoons butter
* 5 large baking potatoes, about 3 to 3 1/2 pounds, peeled and cut into 1-inch cubes
* 1 large onion, halved then each half quartered
* 3 large cloves garlic, cut in halves
* salt

PREPARATION:
Put oil and butter in a 15x10x1-inch jelly roll baking pan. Arrange potatoes, onion, and garlic in the pan. Bake on low rack of oven at 450° for about 1 hour, until golden brown and crispy. Stir occasionally.

Note: This recipe is intended as a guide. I season mine with garlic salt for flavor and paprika for color. You don't have to use a jelly roll pan. I don't have one. I use 2 baking pans. You can half the recipe. Mine are done in about 45 minutes.

I put shredded cheese over them cuz i like cheese with anything! yum :))
