Ever put canned baby clams in SEAFOOD GUMBO? Any ideas for interesting ingredients?!
I do not have any sort of fish or seafood - except canned baby clams. I don't want to ruin the whole pot. Have you ever put them in Gumbo?
Answers: So far I have chicken, sausage, shrimp besides all the other - roux, onions, garlic, celery, bell pepper, okra.

yes ... they're fine, but not as good as fresh. Don't forget the file powder:) Also, if you put frozen cut-up okra in (frozen) it won't turn slimy .... If you can find any crawfish, that'd be good too....
I live in Louisiana so you know we put everything in our gumbo!
bacon grease for making roux (much better than cooking oil)
whole gumbo crab
crab meat (not imitation)
oysters
crawfish
fish (a firm fish that will stay together, although you can make catfish gumbo)
I make seafood gumbo so I leave out the chicken and sausage.
nfd?
I see above me she mentioned file'. Yes we have that too. But I love the "slime" that okra gives. To me that's Gumbo!
Yes, it's very good! There's alot of people who prefer chopped clams in soups because you don't have the fleshy body of the clam. Some people might not like the fleshy body of the clam. It's a consistency thing! Fresh clams are great in other recipes though. Go for it!
You really don't need the file if you use okra. It does the same thing and the file don't add much flavor.
