Bread Machine?!

Question: I'm thinking of buying a bread machine since I don't really like the taste of store bread and it is sooooooooooo expensive. Plus, I like the idea of knowing what I put in my food and not having preservatives in it. But when I have made bread, it doesn't always rise especially when it is cold and it takes a long time and doesn't really seem worth it for only one loaf at a time and I live in a small apartment with a smallish refrigerator with not space to freeze loafs.

Has anyone recently bought a bread machine they are happy with? Which model would you suggest? Is it worth it to buy one of the more expensive ~$180 models? I'm thinking I would like to buy this and use it for bread exclusively for quite a few years. I keep reading reviews and there are positive and negative reviews about each product.

I've had a Pillsbury machine for well over 10 years, that works as well as the day I bought it! It was not a very expensive model either. I liked it because it only makes a 1-lb loaf, and there are only 2 of us, so I don't need larger loaves. Also, the canister is rectangle, like a normal loaf of bread, and some others had "weird" shapes ....

Hi there,

I to recently purchased a bread machine. Mine was from Macy's and it cost about $130 new. Below is a link to the model that I purchased.
http://www1.macys.com/catalog/product/in...

Here is what I like about the machine:

I love the machine because it does everything on it's own. I don't have to do a thing. If you put your liquid/wet ingredients in first and then all your dry your bread always turns out. With this machine you can make 1-2 lb loafs of bread. It's nice because then if you want a little more bread your machine can hold it. Another nice feature is that if you wanted to make fresh bread in like 1 hour 2 min this machine does it for you. Just add all your ingredients and your done!

Here is what I don't like about the machine:

It seems that no matter how I store the bread after it's been baked and cut it seems to dry out within a couple of days. Then I end up wasting bread that I could have used. That is the only think I didn't like with the machine. Now it could also be my recipe that I had but I'm not sure because I have tried at least 3 or 4 recipes and they all dried out quickly.

Overall the machine is a 5 star machine in my book. It's great! Well worth the $130 we paid at Macy's. Hope this helps!

I've had mine for a few years now and love it. I make a lot of bread and pizza dough. No need to worry about proofing the dough in cold weather as it has a thermostat controlled function to provide the right temp to make the dough rise every time without fail. I received mine as a present, but if I had to buy one, I would have bought one with a timer. Another tip is to add "Bread Improver" to the mix, about 1 tablespoon to a 750gr mix, the bread will be moist and will keep longer in air tight container or bag. Good luck.
