I dont have buttermilk but i'm making sugar cookies and need 3 to 4 tablespoons? what kind of substitutions?!

Question: I've heard you can add about a teaspoon of lemon juice to milk and let it sit for 10 minutes to curdle slightly and it works well. I've never tried it though, in the past I have just used normal milk and it seems to work fine.

Milk! safest :)

for that small of an amount, take 3-4 TB of regular milk and add a wee bit of plain vinegar to it.... I keep a container of powdered buttermilk in my pantry, because I never use it, but have it for the times a recipe calls for it:)

You can add vinegar or lemon juice to milk and let it sit for about 5 minutes and it makes a very good buttermilk substitute.

You can add 1 tablespoon of lemon juice or vinegar to 1 cup of milk as a substitute to buttermilk, but since you need such a small amount I don't know how much to tell you to add.
Actually when using such a small amount I don't think it would matter if you used regular milk.

you can use yoghurt, custard, sour cream.
