I'm making steak tonight....?!

Question: I have put various marinades on it. I didn't think this was going to bother me but it's been in the fridge and every time I open the door I can smell it in there and I get real nauseous (I'm pregnant by the way). I know once I put it in the oven and it starts cooking my house is going to smell and I don't want to get sick. Is there anything I can do before I cook it to alleviate the odor it's going to give off?

I would wash off that marinade and instead use a spice rub on it. If the smell is making you sick, you probably aren't going to want to eat it!

You could wash the marinade off. It should still have some of the flavor, but it won't be overwhelming.

Are you sure this is due to the marinade sauce? or could it be that your body is haywire because of the pregnancy? If you think it is bad, you certainly don't have to use that particular marinade. I usually use a light chili powder, seasoning salt, maybe light garlic and/or red wine.

It will smell differently once it starts to cook so just try holding your nose till it starts colouring and you should be ok.

Good luck with the baby by the way!

Usually one marinade is plenty to flavor your steak. Take your steak out of the fridge and pour the marinade down the drain. Place your steak in a plastic bag that has a zip lock top or another way to secure it. Return to fridge. When your significant other comes home, or whomever you are living with, have them cook the meat while you take a walk or run to the store. They can air out the house while you are gone, light a scented candle that you like and when you come back, you can enjoy your dinner.

Would it be possible to just throw it on the grill outside? That seems like the best option, if you are sensitive to food smells. Even with "rinsing off" the meat, you will still smelll seasoned meat.
