If they are pintos cook with a few slices og bacon in a crock pot

Being from the south, we put meat in everything. If you have red beans, you put tasso or sausage in them (I think it's called kielbasa up north). If the beans are light colored like navy or pinto, we use ham. So I'm all for the meat in the beans. lol

I like to saute up some onion and garlic, then throw that into a crock pot with some oregano, salt, garlic powder, white wine, water and white northern beans....sometimes I add some cumin and a whole tomato...with a couple of smoked turkey parts added into the crock pot as well, for added flavor and richness...at the end I add parsley to the pot.

I have a caribbean background and we always cook beans all kind of beans...
here a few recipe I found online....

a good ham hock in the beans will make you keep coming back...LOL

If you mean baked beans, then bacon strips or salt pork. This is the traditional French-Canadian way of doing them.

Great northern beans, put into the crockpot dry with the recommended amount of water or chicken broth and a couple cups of cooked cut up ham. Set on low for 10 hours or what ever amount of time it needs for the beans to get tender.
Will remain delicious for several days if refrigerated so don't be afraid to make too much.

boiled w/water add meat for seasoning 1/2 way thru cookin
