Is it just me or does anyone else think that all storebought tortillas are disgusting?!

Question: I can't stand H-E-B's tortillas or any other brand for that matter. The only tortilla's I'll eat are homemade. Anybody else like this?

well, i prefer homemade, but sometimes you have to do what you have to do..and just be thankful... but i understand what your saying!

I only buy the ones that are made fresh, constantly, at Kroger's.... You get free samples of them, hot with butter, and they're SO good!

I agree for the most part. There are some that you can buy in the store, even HEB (I used to live in Austin) that are really good. Look for the ones that have a short shelf life, and stay away from those that have the long list of preservatives, especially anything with acids in them. Those flavors come across so easily in something as simple as a tortilla.

Guerro's brand used to be pretty good. (I have not had them in a long time.) They even had par-baked versions that you finish off at home for that "fresh" flavor.

I agree the HEB brands suck. They have that certain preservative in them that make them taste like crap.

The best is to just make your own if you have the time. Or find a local Mexican restaurant that makes their own tortillas, and buy them by the dozen. I had a dishwasher who would go to Mexico frequently, and bring back the most amazing tortillas. Once you have something artisan, you can never be satisfied with the factory crap.

I don't think I've ever had homemade....so I can't compare.

I certainly prefer homemade, but frankly, rarely get them. The closest I come is when I buy a dozen or two to go at a Mexican restaurant or mercado or a gourmet-type bakery where they are making them fresh. That'll do for me!

I always feel the package of tortillas if they are soft enough I will buy them and when i use them i have my "comal" the iron skillet for torilllas hot enough to cook my tortillas, i have seen people just pop them in the microwave "barf".
HEB also has a lady making tortillas and packaging them and they are nice and hot but i still cook (or warm) them up on the comal. I hate white tortillas i have to cook them to my liking.
Of course homemade is better but who has time these days. The last time I made homemade tortillas (and not a mix) was about 15 years ago.
