Food Network's Paula Deen....Gross?!?!
Answers: I was watching Paula Deen on FN, and she was making "Decadent Desserts" with pseudo celebrities...anyway, as she was making the desserts, she kept licking her fingers and sticking them back in the desserts...I was totally grossed out by this! Does anyone else think that is unsanitary and just kinda gross? To see food being contaminated by those preparing it...Just want your thoughts. Its not really THAT big of a deal, but it WAS nasty!!!!
I once saw Paula Deen make a soup with bacon fat AND butter AND mayonnaise AND sour cream ... talk about gross ... just watching it clogged my arteries!
I really don't enjoy watching her at all. I mean, I realize it's TV and no one is actually eating that stuff, but still ... I think we are all aware of sanitary food procedures by now!
True, maybe she licks her fingers in her OWN kitchen, but on a TV show? That is just nasty!
it's just how she is. plus baking kills the germies.
it's not like everyone bakes/cooks that way
not really as the viewer's present get a totally different sample and real people at home know we do that all the time it's a normal thing
not gross for me
It doesn't gross me out personally but I must admit that her "crudeness" (like licking her fingers) is very annoying and is a reason she isn't one of my favorites.
i dont think so , i mean come on , lots of people cook like that .
You'd never make it as a chef. I sold food products to restaurants for years and had contact with lots of chefs. I can tell you they all handle the food and taste it etc... Paula grosses me out for other reasons but the putting of fingers into the food is standard procedure in commercial kitchens.
I see many infractions of sanitation when I watch the Food Network and many other cooking shows, but I'm also numb to these types of actions from seeing so many Chefs and cooks dip their fingers into sauces to taste them and such, not to say that I'm agreeing with them. There are several other TV Foodies that do the same thing and it does make me think.....I don't particularly like it when she takes a hand full of food and tries to feed people, like they are baby birds waiting for their mother to cough up some digested eats. I like her older shows better, but I think she has some really good dishes, in my opinion.
I don't like that, either. She is a very sweet woman, though. Has been through a lot in her life, and I appreciate that she's very real and open about that. I nearly had a gall bladder attack watching her "Fried Thanksgiving" show last year with absolutely every single thing fried! Eek!
she can be gross, but some desserts that she makes look good, but so unhealthy.
people in glass houses should not throw stones. shame on you.
she is not the only one who is doing that. some of the chefs also perform that act. i know that's one the way to taste the food but it's the correct way. it'll contaminate the food, give the audience/fans a bad impression, and what older people said, whoever eat your sliver will always listen to them.
Oh come on!!! Paula cooks like our Mom's did or do!! That's what I love about her--I can totally see my Mom and Gramma doing that. It's entertainment--so you get her recipe and make sure you wash and disinfect and whatever you have to do to make yourself happy. Like you never poked your finger into something to check the seasoning!!! And what about the "10 second rule" when you drop the Oreo!!
it does not gross me out however i can see how it might some people because it might not be the proper thing to do. growing up i always enjoyed getting to help my mom make desserts and i guess what made it so fun for me was always getting to taste stuff as we went along. and yes that meant i stuck my finger in whatever we were making and licked it off and sometimes i might even have stuck it back in for another taste ( :
cooking should be fun !
