This is my favorite vanilla buttercream frosting recipe. I got it from foodnetwork ages ago.
3 cups confectioners' sugar
1 cup butter
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 to 2 tablespoons whipping cream
In a standing mixer fitted with a whisk, mix together sugar and butter. Mix on low speed until well blended and then increase speed to medium and beat for another 3 minutes.
Add vanilla and cream and continue to beat on medium speed for 1 minute more, adding more cream if needed for spreading consistency.

Buttercream Frosting
1/2 cup butter or margarine
1/2 cup shortening
4 cups sifted powdered sugar
1 1/2 teaspoon vanilla
1 tablespoon milk -- more if needed
This is a wonderful not too sweet buttercream recipe.
Beat ingredients adding one after another, beating till smooth, from the top of the list to the bottom. Add enough milk to make the correct consistency for your frosting. Basic recipe will frost a 9-10" round 2 layer or a 9x13 inch cake.
Simple Buttercream Frosting Yeild: 2 lbs.
Ingreients
1 lb. salted Butter softened
1 Egg (optional)
2 lbs. Powder Sugar sifted
2 tsp. Vanilla
1 oz. cocoa powder and 2 oz water if you want to make Chocolate Buttercream frosting.
1. Mix butter until light and fluffy
2. Beat in egg (if using)
3. Gradually add in Sugar scrapping down the sides of the bowl frequently
4. Add Vanilla and continue beating until smooth and light
If you are wanting to make Chocolate Buttercream then mix the cocoa powder into the water and add at the same time you add the vanilla.
You can cut this recipe in half if you want and if using the egg just use the whole egg as it will be to hard to try to use only half an egg.
either way you make this ....it is really good frosting
