i would use cream cheese frosting and no caramel

Really doesn't seem like it needs a frosting. I think that mixture on the top isn't going to be cake like so it would be hard to frost it. Why not sprinkle some powder sugar and cinnamon on it if you feel it needs something.

I think a cream cheese frosting would be delicious with that recipe.

I think cream cheese icing would be great having pumpkin in it.

Cream Cheese Icing

? pound (2 sticks) butter, room temp
2 (8 oz) packages cream cheese, room temp
2 pound confectioners' sugar, sifted
1 tsp pure vanilla extract

Ccombine the butter, cream cheese, sugar, and vanilla in the bowl of an electric mixer fitted with the paddle attachment, mixing just until smooth.

I agree with everyone, with the pumpkin, cream cheese would be really good.

Sounds like a pumpkin cheesecake, I wouldnt put anything on it. Maybe some whipped cream!

cream cheese or vanilla

It sounds kind of like a spice cake so I would put vanilla frosting.

I would use a whipped cream cheese icing...

INGREDIENTS
1 (8 ounce) package cream cheese
1 cup white sugar
1/8 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 1/2 cups heavy whipping cream

DIRECTIONS
In a small bowl beat whipping cream until stiff peaks form; set aside.
In a large bowl combine cream cheese, sugar, salt and vanilla. Beat until smooth, then fold in whipped cream.

YES put that caramel on top!!

I have to agree with the powdered sugar on top. However, you could do a caramel "drizzle" over the top...that might actually be good. The recipe does sound good as is though.

Sounds really good and in keeping with the type of cake it is, Why not make a cream cheese frosting. Yea I know everyones suggesting it but it actually would be a really good combination. Or if you dont why not make a very simple glaze just to enhance the cake and not really sweeten it up any more.

1c powdered sugar and 3 tablespoons milk are all you need to make a very light simple glaze to drizzle over the top of the cake if you really want to add a bit some something to it.
And remember not all cakes, cupcakes and such need a frosting or glaze to be really flavorful and yummy. So keep it simple and you could get the best reaction from those who try it.

i would probably just sprinkle a little powder sugar on top and leave off the frosting...it sounds good though :)

White Chocolate buttercream
Cream cheese frosting
Maple Buttercream

Whipped Cream Frosting

COOK UNTIL THICK:
1 cup milk
4 TBLS. Flour
set aside to cool

BEAT:
Together….3 minutes
? cup margarine
? cup shortening (Crisco…NOT cooking oil)

ADD:
1 cup sugar
(1/4 cup at a time, beat thorouhly)
1 tsp. Vanilla

ADD :
Gradually add flour & milk mixture

BEAT:
Until the consistency of
Whipped Cream

Since you have pumpkin in the filling.....you might add a llittle pumpkin pie spice to frosting.

Definitely brown sugar boiled icing.

1 cup brown sugar, packed
1/2 cup water
Mix until sugar is dissolved.
Boil until it spins a long thread from the tines of a fork. Dip the fork into the hot syrup and let it drip.
Pour slowly into 2 stiffly beaten egg whites. Add a tsp. of vanilla if desired.
Makes enough to frost a large cake and would go super with the pumpkin and spices.
