How to cook asparagus?!

Question: What's a good way to cook asparagus? I love it but it always turns out " not done " or " mushy ". I have a deep fat frier that I think might work for steaming, or a pot for on the stove to boil it or whatever, I don't know if I would like it baked...So please tell me how to make it good....!

In foil with some butter on the grill, were having it tonight.

Roast it in a little olive oil and black pepper

well...we've never had asparagus as a base ingredient...
so we always have it on the side, steamed together with salt n pepper and lemon....or use it in chicken soup or asparagus soup...or have 'em bakes with chicken....

when I'm making asparagus in the pan I always know its done when i poke it with a fork and it splits thru the center....

you could chop them into bite sized pieces and saute them in a little canola oil with some chopped onion an lemon juice until crisy tender..delicious

I like to saute mine in olive oil. You will notice when it is approaching doneness that the green color suddenly perks up and you can really start smelling the asparagus-y odor. Best way to know is just pluck one out of the pan and do a taste test.

I hate using water to cook asparagus...water logged and soggy. Yuk.

I agree with the 1st poster.

Toss it with olive oil and salt/pepper and grill or roast it.

I don't care for the texture of steamed or boiled (or microwaved)

Boil water. Add a little olive oil and pepper. When the water has been boiling for a minute or so, drop the asparagus in there and count to 100. Poof. Done. I call it flash boiling. Good stuff.

Into a saute pan about a tablespoon of olive oil. Let heat add asparagus then add about a tablespoon of white wine reduce wine and add kosher or sea salt and butter on the end. Takes about 3 minutes. crispy and delicious

I cook them in the microwave for 3 minutes with a small amount of water. Another way is to grill them after they have been rubbed with a little olive oil, salt and pepper. For a great treat, after you grill them, wrap them in prosciutto(Italian ham) and serve with a little mayo mixed with garlic.

Saute it..wrap bacon around it, then pan fry.

Asian flare: saute it with a little olive oil, 2 TBS. soy sauce, 2 tsp. sugar, 2 gloves garlic. til al dente.

Fry it: Toss with a little flour (makes a small amount of coating on it) and fry at 365* Or if you want more coating dip in eggs, with about a tsp. of water.

This is how I prepare asparagus.. its a hit everytime.

Steam asparagus for 4-5 minutes.

Drain and plunge them into ice water (this will keep them crispy!)

Then spread asparagus spears in a greased baking dish.

Spoon garlic butter and parmesean cheese on it and cover lightly with bread crumbs.

Broil in oven for another 4-5 minutes. Mmmmm!!

My fav is to put the asparagus in a roasting pan or glass baking dish in a single layer. Sprinkle the asparagus with olive oil, balsamic vinegar, salt, pepper and basil. Once your oven has reached 350*, cook it for about 20 minutes. It should be perfect as long as you let the oven get hot enough when you put it in.

I cut it into bite size pieces and simmer it in water until tender but firm. Check with fork. Then I drain the water and add a little milk, butter and salt and pepper to make creamed asparagus.
