My son is allergic to wheat, so we eat a lot of quinoa. Below are basic instructions on prep.

Amount Measure Ingredient -- Preparation Method
-------- ------------ --------------------------------
1 c Quinoa
2 c -- Water

Rinse quinoa thoroughly in a small strainer or by running fresh water over
the quinoa in a pot. Drain.

Put quinoa and water in 1 1/2 qt. saucepan; bring to boil. Reduce heat to
simmer; cover and cook until all water is absorbed (10-15 minutes). When
done, the grain appears translucent and the germ ring will be visible.

Yield: 4 cups.

Here is a great video:

(this video has a little bit of silly stuff in it, but it will show you what quinoa is suppose to look like after it is cooked. The video also talks about making a salad out of quinoa...which is over on the right hand side of the screen)

QUINOA COOKING INSTRUCTIONS: Rinse 1 cup quinoa in a small strainer. Drain. Place quinoa and 2 cups water in a 1 1/2 quart saucepan and bring to a boil. Reduce and simmer, cover and cook until all water is absorbed, approximately 10-15 minutes. When done, the grain appears translucent and the germ ring will be visible.
