Baking a Choco-pot!! Need help!!?!


Question: Ok, I found a recipe for something called Chocohotopots, they are basically really delicious brownies. But they require you to cook them in something called "ramekins", which I do not have. I do have ceramic dishware however. So my question is, do I need to go out and buy these things, or can I use my bowls in the oven?

I am a former chef with 27 years experience. I was trained at the New York Institute of Culinary Arts. I am an educator extraordinaire and have worked at major hotels. I am a certified small kitchen appliance reviewer and am practiced at both Asian and European Cuisines. Believe it or not, I have cooked for the military and in 4 star restaurants. I am a fully trained pastry chef, as well, as well as a saucier. I noticed your little problem and have deigned to help you. I'm sorry. What was the question again?
Oh, yes! No, you're fine. I recommend that you buy some ramekins, though, for future endeavors.

Yes, what you have will be absolutely fine for that recipe. "Ramekins" are more of a soufflé dish and a little thinner than what it looks like you have, but it shouldn't make any difference with the Chocohotopots recipe.


EDIT: That third person is an idiot. Does she really think I didn't bother checking out the the type of cookware that you intended on using and the recipe you intended using it for? What kind of moron would do that? By her answer it is obvious that she didn't bother, but I am a professional baker (as is Gene H), not some schlub. Don't listen to her. She doesn't have a clue. She is a pretender trying to act like she knows more than she does because she fiddles around a little bit. Maybe she should give advice on baking and cooking once she has attended schooling for these and worked in the food industry for at least a few years applying that knowledge.

I shudder that the other two who answered before me have been so quick to say that your bowls are safe for the oven. How do they know?

Most stoneware is safe to go into the oven to a certain temperature. You do not give the temperature for your recipe, and the Target site does not specify that these dishes/bowls are safe for oven use or to a specific temperature. If you have any literature from the dishes from when you purchased them, refer to that to see what it says.

Since you really seem excited about this recipe (and sound like you are likely to make it again) why not get yourself a set of ramekins? They are useful little dishes and I'm sure you will find other uses for them (creme brulee, custards, souffles, or just to hold condiments, etc.) I'm sure you could find an inexpensive set at Walmart or another local retailer.
