I'm not a great fan of olives, is there anything i can replace them with that will add a tasty flavour?!

Question: the recipe is for chicken with beans and chorizo: i dont need something that will mimic the flavour of olive, but something that will add its own "oompf" Thank you!

Chicken, Chorizo, and Bean Bake
(adapted from Donna Hay’s Smoked Paprika Chicken and Lemon Bake, Donna Hay magazine, issue 32)

* 4 pieces chicken (I used 2 drumsticks and 2 thighs)
* 1 400-gram can of white beans, drained
* 1/2 a lemon, sliced
* 1/3 cup black olives
* 1 chorizo sausage, sliced
* 4 cloves garlic, bashed a bit but still in their skins
* 1 cup chicken stock
* A little less then 1/2 teaspoon pimentón de la vera
* Olive oil
* Sea salt and freshly cracked black pepper

- Place the beans on a baking dish, then pour the stock over them. Arrange the chicken pieces, lemon, olives, chorizo, and garlic over the beans. Drizzle olive oil over the whole lot. Sprinkle with salt, pepper, and pimentón.
- Roast in a 200C oven for 45 minutes or until chicken is cooked through.

marinated artichoke hearts these are yum and taste nothing like olives, maybe asparagus or chili. use chili for ompf and a kick to any meal - i love chili.
or maybe some caper berries - these are like olives but not the same flavour - salty- and you can get them as berries or these small little things like saltanas - normally they go great with salmon and cream cheese. check your supermarket for jars of them
hope that helps

You could add diced onion and celery... maybe a little fresh seeded tomato.

But there are many kinds of olives.. you might try a few to find a mild one.

To give you an idea, mix diced olives with a bit of cream cheese......spread on crackers. Makes a nice appetizer and lets you taste the flavor of the olives with out having them be overpowering.

You could consider another vegetable - maybe some chopped bell pepper, onion, corn or mushrooms. These will have similar texture and be about the same size and all three will add a distinctive taste. Bell pepper, onions and corn are popular with this type of dish. You might even add some black beans instead of the olives.

I agree about the trying different olive types/flavors thing, but why not try some red bell peppers, or marinated artichoke hearts, or something like that.

If I were you I would add some sun dried tomatoes. Just to try something new! :)
