please help its urgent!!
Answers: Im making toffee and i was wondering if i could use balsamic vinegar instaead of brown malt vinegar!!!????
please help its urgent!!
no they are not the same. malt vinegar comes from beer and balsamic comes from wine. they have totally different tastes and are also completely different.
No way! Your toffee will taste like the Balsamic (taste it, it's good but not a sweet flavor).
It's not the same otherwise they would have the same name. I dont know if you can substitute one for the other but the only way to find out is to try.
NO! Balsamic is a highly specialized, aged Italian product. Nothing like typical vinegars. It's very sweet and often thick.
No resemblance at all.
Balsamic vinegar( I mean the real ones) are made with pure grape must and aged for years in oak casks.
They can range in age from one year to a hundred years( and more).
A mediocre aged balsamic would run $20 for an 8oz. bottle( I'm not talking about the thin watered down $3.99 bottles that were made last week). Those are sugar water and vinegar.
The older it is, the thicker and sweeter it becomes.Note: In Modena they are not allowed to put the age on the bottle anymore, so the number you see will never say "years old or "anno".
It may say 25( making you think its 25years old) but either theres nothing that says age underneath it or it may say Vat no.Quite tricky labeling.
The only bottles that can specify the dates are called "consorzio" bottles. That's the council that assures what your getting is Genuine.
Same with Parmigiano cheese.
So if you see a bottle that's 25 years old and its not about $250.00 its not real.
Brown malt vinegar( although good for what its made for, is about $3.00 a bottle.
See who can spot the phony bottle on ebay
if you want email me! Let's have some fun! I import Balsamico and olive oil.
