Cooking halibut?!

Question: We bought some halibut fillets today and was told it was excellent fish to cook but when unwrapped it has a very fishy smell? It looks good but is there anything that we can do to take that smell out while cooking?

Fish really shouldn't smell fishy----I mean, it is fish, and should smell like fish, but not a strong scent. Your fillets are old or have been improperly stored.

Wash it with cold water and lemon before you cook it.

sorry to burst your bubble...but normally when a fish smells fishy it means its past its prime.

A fresh filet of fish should almost smell sweet like you are by the ocean!!
the fish should still be ok to eat and I believe lemon or marinara sauce are best to stop the smell of a fishy smelling fish from becoming the fishy taste of a fish dinner.
