How do I stop rice clumping in the bottom of a rice cooker?!
Answers: I have tried everything I can think of but rice still clumps in a one grain thick layer at the bottom of my rice cooker. How do I prevent it?
With my rice cooker, it takes about 20 minutes for it to cook the rice. The instruction book said as soon as it goes from the "Cook" cycle to the "Warm" cycle, I am to stir the rice. By doing that, nothing sticks to the bottom of the cooker. Are you doing that? It would help prevent it from clumping. Also, if you aren't using enough water for the amount of rice you are cooking, it could cause the clumping too.
I agree with all that Rli R posted but wanted to add that I soak my rice for about 30 minutes prior to cooking it in the rice cooker. This seems to make the rice fluffier too. I would try variations on the rice vs, water ratio and also presoaking the rice...It took me about 65 times in a rice cooker to learn how to cook rice at a mile high altitude (I really had to re-learn how to cook almost everything! lol) but rice was my hardest challenge and I got a rice cooker to overcome that problem!
you may add a little oil or butter before all the water boils off. i think this coats each grain and prevents clumping. it works for me, hope it does for u too.
